So my kicks are too weak, eh?

Don't change your style because of a few comments. Trust yourself.

But... I do like this kick much more than your other work.

Hm, I might have said the kick is quiet for a couple of samples so far but I doubt this thread is a response to that :D

With that out of the way, I do like this more :Saint:

Yea don't worry, the high mids are going byebye!

I just realized I didn't do the octave trick on the guitars, nor any limiting on one side for the widening effect! There's some free depth/width left to be gained with that, so I'm keen to try it when I go back to it on Monday.

1176s just got back, so I'll be cramming those on lead vox and the bass guitar for even more rounding goodness.

Put up a video of this song being mixed. It's about 80% complete now. A fair bit more automation to be done, and a fair few more vox to be mixed in, but you can see how it all looks being run through the outboard:

The low end in general in this mix is just stellar. I personally think it could use a touch more bass guitar though.

Thanks mate, you're confirming what I'm thinking.

Though in the YouTube clip it was compressed into mp3 twice, so that probably robbed it a little.... but, I'll give it a check up in the mix all the same and see what I can do about it later today.

I'm going from both of the mixes, mp3 version and YouTube. It does have a bit weaker low end on YT, but the mp3 version still feels as if it's lacking bass guitar a bit to me. The vocals and drums sound fantastic, though.

Great. Do you feel this is the case with both mp3 versions, 2 and 3? Because the bass did change between them.

2 has more bass guitar. The kick stands out a bit less in 2, but overall it has a better balance in the low end. I feel that 3 overall seems to have a bit more low end, but it's mostly from the kick and the bass guitar feels weak in that version.

I'm using Breaking Benjamin's Dear Agony as a reference, if that helps.

Really struggling to hear a difference between the two, however..

There's something going on in the mids that I don't like. It was there in the last metalcore mix you posted as well (not the Untruth one, the one with all your new outboard), I just can't articulate it.

The snare could also use a touch more attack in the chorus (verses its fine), although this may just be because you made it too loud.

Other than that it sounds pretty fucking hugggggge.

The mids issue could be the rhythm guitars. I did what most would consider a 'normal' amount of post processing on them, rather than my usual 14 plug-in chain. As a result they have a fair bit of junk left in them, and I've left them lower in the mix to compensate. Just trying something different.

Maybe in this case I'll give Plec the rhythm stems and he can work with them as he pleases, since he's always trying to turn my guitars up in the master, hahah.

Thanks for listening and for commenting.

@tempe: Just something AW and Randy do. The limiter trick is done with a PCM42 to one side of the guitars to widen them. Just google it up, it's been covered better than I can explain it here. There is a thread... I think I may have started it here where CFH13 explains it all, and shows it in action.

The octave thing is basically getting your rhythm guitars, duplicating and pitch shifting them down an octave for choruses, and blending them in.
