There should be a button on the toolbar. Can't say I know Trillian, but manually connecting from the favorites menu should do the trick.

How did you manually reconnect? I'm stupid with the IRC

perhaps you can't manually reconnect because it's going soft, that can lead to premature reconnection discharge and that can fry your drive
