Some prog/power albums I've been spinning as of late...

Twilight Odyssey fellas, Twilight Odyssey. :kickass:

I will give you that the few songs of theirs I've heard were definitely above average. But when I began reading about them, and saw some pictures, I realized they're the band I saw at the NJ Metalfest a few years' back. Holy shit were they bad! It certainly sounds like they've improved. And more importantly, had an image makeover as well. The little tart lead singer of theirs is like 45 years old and maybe 5 feet tall wearing platform boots. You certainly wouldn't be able to tell that from looking at promo pics, lol.

Markgugs - just because YOU woke up now, it doesnt mean that there is a "trend" nowadays about the whole thing. For example Battleroar exist since 2000-2001 and Twisted Tower Dire are a LOT order (since you mentioned these 2 bands, i dont know Icarus Witch)

I'll disregard the "woke up now" comment, since you know better.

I didn't say these bands all up and started in 2005; I said there seems to be a prevalent TREND toward true/heavy metal styled music moving back to the forefront of the metal world.

Who the fuck knew about Battleroar in 2000? I bet not even YOU did, and we don't all live amongst the goats & ruins in Greece, like you and they do.

Actually about Battleroar since you bet, i know the guys in person and i knew them when they were forming the band, and giving their first live shows. Also Battleroar then were building a good underground name with their demos, and many goats..erm sorry - i meant people were interested in them (especially in Germany and Italy). Your post just makes me say the "you just woke up" part again - because YOU ignore something because you havent read about it in UM, doesnt mean that every person worldwide doesnt know about it either.
The "trend" you are talking about, simply doesnt exist. The bands were always there, the interest about them wasnt .

That's more what I was getting at. And it's not my interest we're speaking about, it's the rest of the world seems to be taking notice of this style all of a sudden again. It's weird, and more often than not, undeserving IMO, of course.

You have to realize that "The rest of the world" is not UM. Do you know how many people (from Europe especially of course) traveled to the first Manilla Road reunion show in Bang Your Head 2000? Do you know how many signed a petition for Cirith Ungol to reunite some years ago too? The interest im talking about is slowly growing, and it just gets to someone's attention suddenly and then its natural for him to say "wow whats going on is this a new trend?"

I realize that, and I'm not talking about UM in the least. I'm talking about the "buzz" I'm getting from the 15-20 review/zine sites I check semi-regularly.

"Promo slaves" were never a good source to learn about something beyond nuclear blast/roadrunner/century media/inside out material. Most of these webzines (not THESE you are talking about, most of the internet well known webzines), write only about what they are given, and dont do any search on their own. If on the other hand you tried most of the websites in this server : www.truemetal.org
Then maybe you would see what im talking about.

At the last ProgPower, I spent a good deal of time, on a number of occasions, chatting one on one with Urban Breed (vocalist, Tad Morose). Since I Believe he's a phenomenal vocalist...As I said, I have a good deal of respect for Urban's own vocal abilities, so I give weight to what he has to say about singing.
