1. Creeping Death
2. Fade to Black
3. Fight Fire With Fire

All great songs, but Creeping Death and Fade to Black are way more consistent than FFWF. The later has a solid but unspectacular verse. Then, contrasting CD with FtB, the later has more layers and interesting transitions.

Fight Fire With Fire is one of thrash's greatest accomplishments. There isn't a second that isn't perfect.

Nah it definitely is. The contrast between the almost caveman-like DUH DUH DUHDUHDUH vocal/guitar rhythm and the extremely intricate and technical riffing in between is like nothing else. Plus it's that one verse that inspired the entire existence of Mekong Delta.

The vocal line is a short punchy thing, the flatness is a feature, not a bug. If he tried singing more melodically it wouldn't have worked for that song.

He could have gone harsher and that could have worked, but that flat sound is uninspired. Still a strong song, but far from the best on the album, let alone the best of the genre. B+.

What would be an example of Hetfield at his harshest? By his standards I think he puts on a fairly harsh, or at least gruff performance. It kinda works in a dispassionate way too, song about nuclear armageddon and the lyrics aren't emotionally-charged like the title track, Fade to Black, etc, it's very matter-of-fact "We're all gonna die and this is how".

that's about as harsh as he'd been by that time.

"his voice wasn't that harsh so B+" is all that needs to be said about crimmies take on it. One of the best songs from one of the best thrash albums of all time. Easily up there with the best of the subgenre
