st. anger

It could have passed as a decent album in general (not a great metallica album, but a great album) if they had changed the snare...

drop C was a strange choice too...

Theres was a randy staub mix floating round of some kind of monster, better snare, more polished..If the whole album was like that i probaly would've gotten into it more..

A classic by one of our fellow Sneapsters, Matt Smith.

Sorry guys, but I absolutely hate this cd. Not just the sound quality , but the songs and lyrics are epically lame. I seriously just try to forget this one exists and listen to Justice , Lightning , Kill Em All , hell even Death Magnetic shits all over this album. If anything they actually sound fake on St Anger , like they were being angsty and recording with a shit sound and dumbing their music down to punk chords because they thought that's what the cool kids were doing.

I hope to god that touring with Megadeth, Slayer, and Anthrax light a fire under their ass to put out one final decent album and then call it quits -- end with a bang with a nice quality thrash album. After Death Magnetic's clipping extravaganza, one can only hope they call Andy or some other competent metal producer to produce, mix, and master their next album. I think DM would have been received much better had it had a quality production and mix.

Maybe to help w/ the songwriting, they can invite Mustaine back in the band for the writing process, then kick him out again after it's done? LOL. Maybe that will fuel Mustaine's hate for them again and make some more monsterfully powerful Megadeth albums.

The last time I cared about Metallica:

couldnt help noticing you missed out Master of Puppets....??

Yeah like I said I love unamed feeling but the rest of the songs fucking suck, looks like they didnt have any inspiration for this one. The production sucks but I don't really care, I can love an album even if the production sucks if the songs are great, which is absolutely not the case here.

Monotonal Neanderthals push insipid rockstar egos to forefront of piss poor musical efforts.

aha, i'm glad i'm not the only one with these opinions!

i'm not quite sure about the production, i feel they wanted it to sound like it cost them $100 to make, but in reality they spent a shit load of money on it.. so, in that sense it is pretty fake.. hmm.

next to death magnetic though, it sounds really good. the "roughness" round the edges makes it seem raw, but i keep thinking, they've spent a lot to get that sound, it's all quite contrived.

whatever, it's been added to the library now, i'm gonna be listening to it for a while!

I even prefer St.Anger more than Death Magnatic...bouth sound- and songwise...
The Unnamed Feeling still is a great track for me...somehow the sound fits for THAT track.

but Justice is and will always be THE metallica CD for me.
garage inc. kicks ass too.

i far prefer the rehearsal room dvd over the actual finished studio version, I fucking HATE the drum sound on the studio versions.
otherwise i love the album (aside from frantic's godawful lyrics.) st anger, unnamed feeling, sweet amber, and all within my hands are all great songs (though I think cutting the riff repetititons from 16x to even 8x, would have been better.)

What I couldn't understand with this album was that they complained for 20 years about Justice having "no production" then they turn around and say "we're gonna do this with little or no production" in the digital world that means it sounds like it was recorded in a water tank.

I hate the snare on this album, and I think that they were just trying to be "cool" with the low tunings, I mean some of the songs were in drop A...brings memories of Korn back lol

But this album sounds angry, you can hear the anger in most of the songs, and I like that haha.
