Update: closed beta testing is underway (for now in the USA only)

There doesn't seem to be one and the game might be coming out this year ;)
I just watched the two battle reports at the official site:
http://starcraft2.com/features/battlereports/1.xml

Are you as anxious as me to try the game out, even if it's a beta of it? I guess the beta won't be open for the public but still there should be a demo this year I hope.

I hope my work won't be affected by me wanting to get it over with, so that I can join a 4v4.

I have no interest in commiting to games anymore, but it would certainly be fun to try this! I loved SC 1 atleast, maaaaaaany years ago :) I used to play in clans and shit (I was like what... 14? :O FUCK, almost a decade ago! *panic*).

Meh, I always thought SC and Brood War actually had great stories, and played 'em mostly for those, but RTS games have just gotten SOOOOOOOOOOOO boring to me - the same thing over and over, build, get resources, tank rush, blah blah blah - yes, there's some strategy, but the small-scale of the maps, the monotony, eh...I'm done with 'em

Back in 1998 when the original came out I was a kid too and I played singleplayer for a year or two. Since then I've had at least 3 periods of obsessive multiplayer games, the latest one being last year. Mind you, I had virtually stopped playing computer games 2 years before that, but once I played SC again I had to play every night 'till 2-3 or even 4 A.M. Then I even started playing in the morning for at least an hour. Good thing I managed to stop.

Generally, I'd agree. Especially the C&C series, which used to be my favourite up until Red Alert. Starcraft multiplayer is just from another universe, there't just so much thinking and strategy and action packed into this relatively simple game. And people really get creative and do amazing stuff. Ten years and still going strong, you know there must be a reason, since there are a million newer games.
Honestly, I believe Starcraft is more than a game - it's a sport and an art.

Hehe, I'm a former World of Warcraft player, and after 2 years, I started realizing it is totally pointless to continue since I had done everything there was to do, except the carrot just is taken further and further away from you everytime they release updates and so on, and that is the whole point... it rakes in the money, gives people something to do with their pathetic free time (I'm so sorry if any of you are really into that game but I can't help it, my disgust for that game is shining through bright as the sun!).

So after WoW, I have lost all interest in multiplayer games, as fun as they may be, especially when playing with really awesome and cool people, it's still just a circle of nothing... at the end of the day, I have nothing out of the game. If I had spent my day knitting a fucking sweater I would atleast have a sweater to wear the next day.

Edit: Single player games are fine though, it's needed sometimes, especially when you need to relax and clear your mind. The good thing is that they don't keep you commited in any way as multiplayer games where you schedule your gaming time with others... I hate that, it's so constricting. With that said though, I will probably give SC2 a go, most likely only for single player but maybe the casual online stuff too :) In that case, it would be the good old "Use Map Settings" kind of levels, if they are still going to exist in SC2 because those were AWESOME. Any of you remember those kinds of maps? :D

Yeah, for awhile I stopped playing video games cuz I was angry at how much time I wasted playing them - but since coming back a few years ago I honestly found I was a much happier person than I was when I wasn't playing 'em, cuz few things let me relax as completely as video games, and as long as I regard them purely as a vice and indulge in them only when I've taken care of all my responsibilities (which includes productive things like exercising, playing guitar, writing tunez, etc.), my conscience is satisfied! :)

"The time you enjoy wasting, isn't wasted time"

Ah Erkan, I see you edited praising the relaxation benefits of gaming, so we're on the same page I see! And the only multiplayer gaming I do is Call of Duty 4, and that might as well be against computer opponents for how anonymous it is! (and that's EXACTLY the way I like it, I always mute everybody else during the game, and if I could do it in the lobby as well, I would! Scumsucking Xbox livers :bah:  )

Haha Marcus :D

Yea of course "The time you enjoy wasting, isn't wasted time" is right. Life has no "true" meaning, so it's up to everyone to figure out what to do with it. Nothing in life is really right or wrong so I can't really be mad at people who waste 16 hours per day on games, like for example World of Warcraft (I seriously know someone who spends 16-18 hours per day on that game, he does nothing else). But I still am mad... pissed in fact. The guy is incredibly smart, and he wastes it on a game. Oh well, atleast he's in the world's best guild and has a big e-peen... let's see if it gets him laid!

I'm waiting for Diablo 3.

Yeah me too. When it comes out after SC2 it will be the crushing blow to my social life

Seriously though, I don't agree it's time wasted if it makes you happy in some way. Should you only listen to music if you're doing something productive in the meantime? Besides, I spend several hours a day working on records which is rewarding enough for me.

I expected more fans of the game ;/

Well, I believe I wrote in my post that "it's needed sometimes, especially when you need to relax and clear your mind.", so I don't know why you think I think it's a waste because I certainly don't think so!

I just don't happen to like MMORPGs, they eat so many hours of people's lives. As I said, now that I've been over and through MMORPGs, I'd rather knit a sweater knowing I could wear it the next day, instead of playing WoW for 5 hours and feeling like I've accomplished absolutely nothing, while paying money for it.

If I'm seeking happiness, there are plenty of other ways to get it in real life. With this said though, who am I to say it's wrong or a waste to play MMORPGs? It's just my personal opinion about those kinds of games, but there is no right or wrong, right? At the end of the day, your life is about you... so whatever makes you happy is good.

It's been yyears since SC2 was announced to be released but it never happens. I think it's just a myth like Monkey Island 5, Star Wars 7,8 & 9, Nessy or Bigfoot

No, it's a Blizzard release ;) They come out...eventually. There was the same wait for most of their games but they are instant classics.

If I pick up a copy of Starcraft 2, there is a good possibility I will never do audio engineering again!

That's how I feel :D

OH GODDDDD YESSS!!!!!

I fucking preordered SC2 when it was SUPPOSED to come out the first time like 2 years ago!

I cant wait to see how much has improved. I hope the online is awesome as well!

Did anyone ever make games with User Map Settings? or did anyone like those??

Im talking like Sunken Defense, Archon Bound, Dodge the Nuke, man those were so funnnn
