Still Life= overrated

Thanks for owning everyone else in this thread, ML. Still Life rules and there's no way around that. I can see having another favorite album, but there's no way that this album isn't one of their best. I've seen people in this thread call songs like Godhead's Lament and Moonlapse Vertigo "average." Do you have ears? It's not dark or sad enough for you either? I can see making that argument about GR, but not Still Life.

Ok, Still Life doesn't suck!
And for the record, I never said that. No Opeth material sucks (especially classics like Eternal Soul Torture  ). But Still Life just doesn't inspire me like the others do (Morningrise excepted). The whole sound isn't as appealing. That's my opinion. About 5% of other people seem to agree. I made my point, so did others. And there were rebuttals (Moonlapse noted especially). But everyone has valid points. I think everyone else can make up their own minds. Good debate.

the moor sucks
godhead's lament is really good
benighted.. meh
moonlapse vertigo ... good stuff
face of melinda... good
serenity painted death... good but whatever
white cluster... OMFG FUCKING GREAT!

so yeah, i like stilll lief but not as much as the others

it definitely does not suck... it's just that the other records are better IMO, except for the first two that i dno't really like

I can see why you woldn't like the first 2. In fact, on the surface they are much more obviously dislikable than Still Life. But Orchid is so passionate. Like many first albums, there's a wealth of great ideas that just burst out. It's not the best put together, but it's full of great ideas, from start to finish. Still Life is not.

I think the first two are amazing. Actually if i had to order my fav 4 it would probably be
1. MR
2. MAYH
3. Deliverance
4. Orchid

I just think the first two have a great sound, and theyre more classical. I dont care that they moved on from that sound, but I love it still. Like listen to the end of IMSWS, that guitar part, I think it has more emotion that a lot of parts of Still Life.

though i agree, i think thehy're not as good as the last albums... im not really a fan of the folk influence and stuff like that... i'm more into the progressive side of opeth

omg WS you made a double post lol!!! Still Life is somewhere in my top 4 of opeth's pwning all n00bs records lmao cause it's 1337, and like, omfg i really like Godheads lament its gotta be like, my uber-best pwning opeth song rofl!!!

The Moor is Opeth's finest work, I've never heard so many riffs that are so different that are catchy, haunting and go together like that...I think that Still Life opens better and harder but doesnt provide the punch of an ending that MAYH has with demon of the fall etc
