i've heard sleep - dopesmoker, earth - earth 2, a few things by boris and sunn 0))), any recommendations for either genre would be appreciated

Black Sabbath, Pentagram, Reverend Bizarre, Saint Vitus, Internal Void, Thorr's Hammer, early My Dying Bride, Goatsnake, Warhorse, The Want, Candlemass, Trouble, early Cathedral, Place Of Skulls, the third Sacrilege album, other Wino bands, other Messiah bands, other Leif Edling bands, etc.

Agreed with Doden's Grav on this one. Plus check out The Gates Of Slumber
dude Karl's solos are more Iommi than the legend himself! Plus Jason plays a mean
bass for that band. And their drummer which I forgot his name (sorry) pounds the
hell out of those skins! Pick up thier music as soon as you can!

Valkrye, Earthride(featuring ex members of Broken Hope) and Salt Of The Earth are
badass doom bands as well. And If you like a little death metal added to a mix of
heavy doom try Mourning Beloveth.

He's asking for the shitty kind of Doom, not the good kind.

Winter and disembowelment are hella good, they are both death/doom though which may not be what your looking for. Esoteric, confessor and ufomammut are all quite spandangling as well.

I know, I was just redirecting him. Then again, High On Fire is Stoner Doom and they r0xx0rz.

Black Sabbath-s/t, the opening to the song 'Black Sabbath' started doom and changed the fucking music world.
Cathedral-Forest of Equilibirum,The Ethereal Mirrow,Cosmic Requiem E.P,Seventh Coming
Sleep-Sleep's Holy Mountain, the lost black sabbath album.
Solitude Aeturnus-Into the Depths of Sorrow,Beyond the Crimson Horizon,Through The Darkest Hour,Adagio. SE is one of the greatest bands ever, Robert Lowe is a vocal god.
Candlemass-Nightfall,s/t.
Eyehategod-Take As Needed For Pain
Acid Bath-When The Kite String Pops
My Dying Bride-Turn Loose The Swans

Sleep's Holy Mountain is thoroughly owning me at the moment, I cannot recommend it enough.

Teeth of Lions Rule the Divine are pretty good too, and Pelican should probably go without saying, even though they're not really in the same category.
