ASOP was still metal and full of riffs, some of which coul've been a part of old IF albums. SOAPF was still metal. Battles is californian alt rock.

Cyhra I don't really like cause I think the vocals are generic vocals. It's the type of ''good'' clean vocals you've heard a hundred times already and it bores me in a second. That combined with the gang vocals chorus, no thanks. It's catchy yes, but it's old after a few listens, low replay value.

Nope, it's mine. I mean, Alice in CHains are alt rock but they do not sound like some californian teenagers going surfing. In FLames do.

Because SC is hard to define. It's not Pop. It's not alt rock but it doesn't also sound metal. The change is bigger with Battles.

With generic I meant he has that typical power metal vocals. Love it or hate it, but Anders does have unique vocals both clean and screams, I haven't really heard anyone that sounds like him. Also SC not being metal? If you aren't trolling then you are just plain wrong. I mean sure the title track isn't metal but the album as a whole definitely is.

I understand what you mean about anders but, frankly speaking, I don't care anymore. Anders has a unique voice but has become a boring songwriter. I prefer singers with something to say, even if they do have generic voices. And it's even better if they're able to sing. I'm still skeptic about Jake e, by the way.

1) In Flames should change name. It's not the same band.
2) ASOP has some great material: some of the best drumming in IF discography, bunch of great riffs, melodies, acoustics... But, it's annoying a lot of people (myself included) because of shit vocals, idiotic lyrics and bad guitar sound/production which continues to plague IF since they started to play on Anders and choruses.

I actually think SOAPF has one of their best productions of all their albums. Worst ones probably ASOP/R2R/Battles in no special order.

I think battles have a better production than SC. R2R proves that even with a shitty production songs can be good. SOAPF's is very good.

R2R with a non-muddy production would be insanely good. But I get why it sounds the way it does. They wanted to change it up, they were tired of the Fredman sound. It's weird though because Daniel Bergstrand's previous work and the work after R2R is really well produced. I guess it was more In Flames than his decision. Although you can't really call R2R bad-produced if it's the way the intended it to sound. It's definitely not shit it just lacks some crunch and clarity on the guitars and vocals. I really think the drum sounds great though. But you can hear they wanted it that way like on the System verses with the heavy reverb on the vocals. But we also have to remember R2R is from 2001/2002 and it's not as modern sounding as Come Clarity for example. Because you can clearly hear the similarities with STYE and Soilwork's Stabbing the Drama which Daniel both produced, they have a really similar guitar and drum sound.

Even his Strapping Young Lad - City album from 1997 has much clearer sound than R2R so I defnitely think it's more of a case of intention rather than bad producing.

SOAPF was the best production they'd had since Clayman imo. It worked very well for their less aggressive modern approach.

Then they fucked it all up with Siren Charms, which by the sounds of it was produced in a shed on an old PC using Windows 95 and Sound Recorder.

I thought they were tonally pretty well.

A problem I find with a lot of modern mixing/mastering today is that people like to cut a lot of frequencies. It works great in a lot of places, but sometimes it sounds too obvious, and kind of thins out the whole tone of the guitars to make room for other instruments.

It's why I like Colony a lot because it didn't sacrifice so much and made it sound massive, but the leads could have been a tad bit louder.
I guess that's what Clayman addressed, but part of me feels like Clayman is just SLIGHTLY, just slightly overproduced.

Of course I don't know the old songs ! I like In flames because of Siren Charms and Battles, and even if I love some songs from the older era (Delight & Angers comes to mind), I listened to the old records and didn't like it. I found them good, but not good enough to learn the chorus JUST for the sake of the good ol' fan ...

In flames changed drastically, we can't avoided. But try to listen Battles as it is : a new album from a new band, a new style. If you still don't like it, that's your right, Music is a matter of personal taste, but stop bitching the band and their fans so much ! I find ironic that the olds fans are always insulting the band and then asking respect from them ...
