Styles of Heavy metal

But yeah, this isn't really any better than what ANUS already had up.

In a way, though I don't think that's necessarily the aim. He's just trying to present a rough genre guide in a more user-friendly, concise way - nothing wrong with that. Unfortunately it's not been executed well enough yet but I'm sure he'll put it right.

Göthenburg metal
That page lost some credibility after they put umlauts in "Gothenburg."

lol User friendly?! The only people who can understand that guide already know the difference between every genre if they can understand what's being talked about.

Reccomendations:
Darkthrone - De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas

Reviews:
Origin - Informis Infinitas Inhumanitas
"The best album ever? Possibly. The Best Death Metal album ever? Most likely."

Dream Theater - Metropolis Part II: Scenes From A Memory
"Anyone who thinks a man can’t have multiple orgasms has obviously never heard this album. One word review: Indescribable."

Aside from the slighty weird recommendations that FAQ isn't awful but it doesn't go into anything like the same detail as ANUS and comparing the two seems pointless. Plus I would disagree that 'gore metal' is a real sub-genre.

It doesn't take much to realise Anus often talk a complete pile of nonsensical bilge.

Sometimes things are an interesting read, but for the most part they are simply BAD reviews. Not informative, not very educated at all, despite their desperately overt attempts, and just not well written.

And they don't even seem to know what they're talking about when going on about things like synchopation, and always seem to try to exemplify with the most obscure cases possible just to reinforce their legitimacy.

It sucks.

in short, they have large e-penises to compensate for a lack of communication skills.

It is pointless. The SotL was written for people getting into metal, they don't need to read about all the various little subgenre things anus wants to add......the anus one was written for different reasons.

For newbies: The guide I posted is better.
For people who want to learn more about genres: ANUS seems to be adept at it, but c'mon...we all know this already. There are no N00BZ on this board. What was the purpose of posting it? OH YEAH to augment ANUS' rather large hole I MEAN EGO.

Yes that guide is rather biased. ANUS is biased to certain genres too, they just mask it behind rhetoric.

Gore metal isn't a real sub-genre, I dunno what SotL was thinking (and Devourment aren't goregrind).

why do you say that guide is biased?

I think a simpler, more to the point description of a genre (like SotL) is better than verbose descriptions, which sometimes don't even make sense and aren't correct (the type ANUS has).

You don't see it? Pretty much the whole thing is Death/Black/Thrash......

Edit: Phrasal Death Metal.....but no prog/power, etc.......
