...for promoting the boys properly. Great to see GR in Best Buys (which also has the back catalog stocked at the store by my house) and Walmarts. Nice to have a video produced right off the bat that, despite what everybody's said about it, gave the band's exposure a shot in the arm by airing repeatedly on Headbanger's Ball and Uranium. And you somehow got XM's Liquid Metal to finally play Opeth on a semi-heavy rotation. Not to mention last year's SOTU tour and all the magazine covers.

Not to take anything away from Opeth themselves. Of course, none of the above would have been possible if it weren't for their hard work and reputation in the metal world. But to have a professional label on their side getting them airplay and exposure truly helps.

Satyricon will never be that successful of a band, because they're not that captivating...they're only cool to mention whilst name dropping black metal bands. First few records were good in style, but mostly boring.

nemesis divina is a very successful album. now rebel extravaganza is not your typical black metal album and it took me a while to get into it, but it was very rewarding. the riffs on 'tied in bronze chains' are awesome and frost just sounds too good there.
volcano is entertaining but not as good as these two. the last one now, diabolical is similar to volcano in many respects. i haven't yet formed my opinion about it. sometimes i think some tracks from it rock, but sometimes it acted as just background music. i need to absorb it a little more.
it's good that roadrunner has picked them up.

I barely want to go to shows anymore, but if roadrunner puts together an Obituary tour with at least one other great band from RR...I'll go and thrash my ass off.

I don't remember anyone saying "Satyricon kicks ass!" So why did you just make a post bashing them for no reason?

*ahem* Well if you had read the post thoughtfully you would realise that it was a very well constructed criticism. Dont jump to silly judgements like that. It was an Opinion, and a well put one too( I do love satyricon though ). Its pretty predicatable that your gunna go crazy at this post, Seeing as you went over the top on a post that was not even directed at you. Go ahead.

well, i definitely think satyricon serves more of a purpose than simply being name dropped. the first 3 albums are definitely important releases for the genre, and quite good imo. the last few however id agree that theyre simply "ok" and something id most likely play at a metal party or whatnot. however satyr himself does indeed own one of the more important black metal labels, which houses some of the most important bands in the genre, so even if satyricon has gone downhill, i certainly respect and appreciate his contribution to the genre overall.

damn straight!

also, now that opeth and megadeth are label buddies does this make opeth a lock for gigantour 2?
