great stuff spikes, that John Sloan pic looks totally proto-cyberpunk.

I love maritime stuff too. Could stare for hours at the paintings of Claude Lorrain and Claude-Joseph Vernet, the two French specialists of that genre:

and of course J.M.W. Turner belongs in every post talking about seascapes

Snow Storm: Steam-Boat off a Harbour's Mouth

Both Vernet and Turner have some amazing stuff (the latter in particular)

Yea, Some of the Sloan stuff does have that vibe--these two can certainly be something out of blade runner. No doubt syd mead was probably influenced by some of this era.
