Gericault's The Raft of the Medusa. I love this, of course, because it has to do with the true story of a shipwreck that got really nasty.

And the fact that he took bodies and body parts from morgues to perfect his depiction of death for this painting...all the nastier and awesome.

Picked this up at an Art Fair a couple years ago from some art-school chick who did it with pencil all in dots.

to be honest stuff like that makes me wonder how to distinguish art from someone being messed up and maybe even dangerous
especially the pictures where he irons rubber dolls-skin, salutations to Ed Gein

The quality of the job is amazing, the details, colours, techniques. But it's always those naked teenager girls who look like they've been molested, and this just gives you this odd aftertaste.

It was very fucked up and disturbing, and to create stuff like that I guess you have to be disturbed yourself. It was also well made and made you feel stuff, and Art is all about feelings so that's what makes it good I think but not something I'd want to visit often
