the Australian Idol thread

I understood what he was saying. What she was wearing didn't suit the song. She sang a happy, poppy song, but she looked like she was going into a high powered finance meeting. Yes, she looked good, but as last weeks voting showed, it's all about appearance.

She looked hot, nothing wrong with a woman with class my friends :)

Besides, she would have looked silly dressed as Sandra Dee :)

I think we'd be fooling ourselves if we thought any of the contestants are going to be judged on the strength of their voices/performances alone. Look at Dan. He sucked, but he got through because the teenyboppers think he's cute. Rikki Lee was dressed like she was going into a corporate takeover, not a singing contest. Image IS important in Australian Idol, because in a popularity contest, image is about 90% of what gets you through.

It wasnt power dressing, she just looked classy, just because you are singing pop doesnt mean you have to dress like that ho Christina Aguilera!

I'm with Spawn. I thought she looked very classy and hot. I think she looked way better on Sunday night than she did on the Monday show. She shouldn't wear tight jeans cause she has a bit of as ass issue, but she is very attractive. She is my favorite of the lot...

So if Ricki-Lee becomes successful and tours, will she be expected to have a costume change for every song she does? Will she have to rush backstage and put on a midriff top and hotpants when she does a pop song, then quickly go and don an evening gown when she does a slow jazzy number?

I'm sure that if she gets to that stage, she'll have a stylist, choreographer, business manager, tour director and even a designer working for her, and they'll know exactly what image to give her. Her 'mature' look may appeal to 28 year olds, but the market AI is aiming for is between 13 and 22. They don't want to look up on stage and see a school teacher singing at them.

But then if she's consistent and keeps dressing in mature clothing and she wins the comp, then what will people say about her image?
