The best plugins and VST's for a really heavy sound?

As you can see this arena is full of arseholes! I don't normally jump down peoples throats but FFS I wish some posters would retract cock from mouths.

I spent a long time learning to mix I think if there wer enot so many pricks out there insulting the living shit out of you life would be easier.

Its natural to assume that the sounds you want are from plug ins, but all someone really need to say bluntly was NO CHANCE.

Plug ins dont make you sound like a band or a player, you do that, the plug ins enable you to polish your mix into a professional sound.

So I wouldn't spend much time using them to start with, learn about getting good recorded sounds into your computer first, worry about plugins later.

I think forums are full of many who have been around for a long time and they just become cocky which explains why some of them will never make it in the music industry.

The real heros are the ones like Erms (not to isolate the others but hes a true to the word bloke) who always provide good assistance.

To the rest of you insulting away its just a shame, a waste of time and shows you why you always moaning about "using the search function" - many would had you not covered them in this bullshit we have to tripe through to find stuff.

Forgot to mention one thing. Don't buy The Metal Foundry, ever. It is one of the shittest drum sample libraries I have ever witnessed. I was doing better drum recordings in my second year of engineering. I would literally rather keep drums raw than use those pieces of shit again. Total disgrace after the legendary Avatar library.

Icee the reason you were met with such hostility is that we have a sticky post with all the information you are asking. i understand sometimes the stickies are not hte easiest to find around here cause there are SO MANY good foums that discuss differnet aspects of getting good tone / mixing / plugins / gear. it all gets a little overwhelming sometimes.

Take Ermz advice, but the one thing I didn't notice being mentioned (I may have missed it) is the QUALITY of the playing. That's a HUGE part of the tone and sound of guitars. If the playing technique is not good the tone will suffer. 90% of the tone is in the hands of the player, a poor player will have poor tone even if you run him through a $3000 head. A guy like (insert your kick ass guitarist of choice) can play through a Pig Nose and make it sound like god himself came from heaven

Once again, if the dude actually cared about the craft, he would have searched and read and searched and read all he can about recording, mixing, etc. Instead he came on here and asked a question looking for a succint and easy solution.

If my years of hard work were reduced to "just needing a plugin to get THAT sound", yeah I'd probably troll a dude like this, too.

There is a vast difference between someone trying to learn the craft and the OP's intentions.

I understand that this topic kinda feels like a "begging" topic, as in begging for a good plugin. This was not my intention and I didn't want to step on anyone's toe for asking this. I have no real experience in this kind of stuff, it interests me though. We have the idea's, we have the skills (enough skills for our stuff atleast) but we can't seem to get the right sound for the guitar, it's our only real problem, which destroys the feel of the song and since we are not able to hire an engineer I thought this was a solution, which seems not to be. We are able to record through an amp and we have a pretty high quality microphone, so what you mean is: record the song through the amp and then put the plugin "on" it and tweak it until it sounds good? What we did was record the song right through the plugin.

This is kind of the sound we want to achieve:

I've already looked in the discription and this guy mixed this by himself too. I really like the heavy clean sound.

I think the best bet for you is to start with some good quality guitar DI tracks. Read up about how to do this on here. I believe there are some stickies around to do with 'preparing your tracks for reamping'.

Now find someone whose tones you like and let them reamp the guitars for you. Ask them how they achieved those tones, and let them instruct you on the finer points. No doubt they will have comments to do with the state of your DI tracks and how to improve on them in the future as well. So this way you get a real amp sound, which is what you seem to be aiming for, and you don't need to fart around with sims which will never get you where you want to go unless you become great engineers overnight, and you learn something in the process too.
