I am only judging (as I haven't seen the movie yet, but only the previews) and my first thought was that Ledger is totally trying to imitate Nicholson's style in the way he plays the Joker. Just looked like he was trying to be Nicholson in this role.

Just saw the movie, twice (I snuck into Hellboy 2 inbetween, it sucked)... it was epic. Fucking. Best. Movie. I've. Seen. In. Years. Seriously. Ledger beats Nicholosn's performance which was also great, fuck you Mick)... seriously, I mourn that guy's death now.. only because of that performance, seriously, it was amazing... AMAZING...

And for all those who haven't seen it yet... GO NOW! Or else I will do a little magic trick with a pencil

I'll go next week sometime, after my eye surgery... seriously, I don't want to wreck it by watching it too many times in a row, but it was an epic movie. Only thing that sort of bothered me was Bale's voice, reminded me of Dethklok a bit, but I got used to it fast.

And yes that part was fucking epic...

Are you kidding? Christian Bale is one of the best actors alive today imo, period. The Machinist alone is evidence of how epic that man truly is. His roles in American Psycho is also insane, along with Batman Begins, I think he's brilliant. I put him on the same plateau as Nicholson, Deniro, Pacino, Norton, etc...

Not saying he's a bad actor, it's just like Will Smith and Jim Carrey, they pretty much just play themselves.

And Jim Carrey doesn't always play himself. Have you ever seen Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind...or maybe the Truman Show? Sure his forte is mostly physical comedy. I still think Bale is a really talented actor. Besides, comparing his role in Batman to that of Equilibrium is stupid. In both roles he's supposed to be a fearless fighter that strikes fear into the heart of his enemies. Have you seen 3:10 to Yuma?

I agree that Bale was phenomenal in the Machinist, but I'm just saying that it's hard for me to see him playing batman when he's done movies such as the Machinist and American Psycho....Bruce Wayne is just a really different character and I don't think it fits Bale too well.
