The Gaming Thread

Oh, I thoroughly enjoy my console games as well, and as I always have. However my heart has always been with PC gaming.

Hey I have a recommendation for everyone. The game Shank is pretty damn good, I've been playing it all night and it's amusing the hell out of me. It's a 2d beat em up game that it has a pretty fun combo system and several weapon types to play with. You get your "shank" attack which is just your quick knife attack and it is a permanent weapon, and then you have a heavy weapon slot and a gun slot. Heavy weapons range from Chainsaw to Swords to Chains on your fists and there are 3 gun types too. Each weapon can be used at any time so it gets pretty hectic when you have lots of tough enemies on screen and you can really let loose

It's fun:)

2D rocks, the new Donkey Kong Country looks cool.

Well I'm sure at least someone here has heard about it now but I've been playing a game called Minecraft for a couple months and it's addictive as hell. It's like Lego's for nerds, you just mine resources and build shit. It looks like a 16-bit game except it's first person.

There is no actual objective you just craft tools, shovels and pickaxes , and start exploring the MASSIVE randomly generated world before you eventually start building a castle or house or digging deep underground to where the real good stuff is. Something about it man, I can't only play it for 30 minutes, I play for like 3 hours at a time and I used to play longer when I started. The idea is to build a small shelter and craft torches so you can work indoors/underground with light before nightfall when the nasty shit comes out to kill you and then just expand your little creation outwards. Eventually you get the resources to make weapons and armor of course.

It's a recommendation that is only for certain people but there is a rapidly growing fanbase, infact the teenager who started the game has made enough money to start his own software company and the game is still in Alpha. If you like exploration or building massive shit with very few limits you might want to check it out. Online there are some really crazy things people have made.

I built myself a huge fortress that is built into a mountain (actually the whole mountain IS a fortress at this point) complete giant towers, huge lava falls and a maze-like labyrinth that goes deep under the surface (where I do most of my resource collection when I need). Seriously, Bowser would be proud. It's mah fortress ov doom.

HOLY FUCK

Is his site back up? Last I heard a hacker attacked it because he was upset he wasn't getting enough content quickly enough from this single developer.

that game looks unbelievable, like secretly the best game of all time

Man this game :O It looks fuckin awesome :O

It is actually one of the better games I've played in a long time because it's focused purely on fun. If you like what you see I'd highly recommend you get a torrent of the alpha and figure out how to get started (there is a tutorial on youtube called "how to survive your first night in minecraft" that will teach you the basics) and see if you can only play it for only 30 minutes and then stop:p. I will admit I could not put it down and it seems to be the reason for the success.

You are supposed to buy the alpha at discount and you get all updates (including the beta and final) for free from then on but I actually think trying it first for free using torrents is a better idea since some people might not get it. I actually bought it myself after trying and I felt it was worth the $10 to support it and get updates as they come out. There is a "Mincreaft Classic" you can play for free online but it's really really basic and has no enemies or crafting or anything (which makes it pretty lame in comparison) so I honestly recommend you steer clear of it as it's not the true experience.

The site has been fine lately as far as I know, but Notch (creator) has had plenty of people bitching at him for not updating it enough even though he is still in highschool and did it for fun. It's fucking stupid considering it feels like a full game already.
