The Gaming Thread

So the first game I decided to try was Kingdoms of Amalur and I gotta say i'm loving it...

Its has everything Skyrim was missing, bosses, combo moves etc. I really like the map so far but i'm only level 5, I like that its really easy to get good armor/weapons, the whole secondary/primary weapon system is awesome, that alone could make this better than Skyrim, but the graphics are a little more silly.

I thoroughly enjoyed KoA but as Niki said it is overly easy. If you're playing it and want to feel powerful, it definitely delivers there, but in making you feel powerful there isn't a lot of challenge to be had unless you do what I did and intentionally limit yourself. It plays great and the combat is fun and fluid, plus the hybrid builds are just plain cool to mix and match mid-combat. You know deliver a kickass melee combo all while firing off spells in all different directions feels awesome, plus the dodge you gain by investing a bit into the sorcery tree is fucking cool and almost worth makign a Hybrid class on its own (you do a teleporting "blink" instead of rolling). The story isn't too bad either.

One thing I'd like to point out is Niki made it extra easy on himself by constantly reloading his save to salvage the best parts and basically breaking the game. Just because you CAN salvage the best components early on doesn't mean you SHOULD spend an hour saving and reloading until you get what you want, so you can't complain too much about it being easy if you wasted a lot of time getting gear you were not supposed to have yet . I simply chose to take whatever I got randomly early in the game and it helped keep things a little more interesting. When I started reaching end-game I started quicksaving/reloading but early on it just ruins the challenge to re-roll until you get your perfect gear.

Okay for those of you that have played Singularity, how the flying monkey fuck did you get past the part where you first go back into time and have to save the scientist?

First, they put me back with only the pistol with NO ammo, without being able to get any, i'm versing 20~ enemies, I have what 3 shots from the thing I got, it reloads in like 5000000 hours, the first two enemies come up at a door that I always kill, then after that the enemies won't come to me and if I go to them the door that WOULD be my escape route for when I need to reload magically closes, therefore I have nowhere to hide and have like 10 enemies rush me at once with no ammo so I die.

None of the enemies drop guns, just ammo for a assault rifle that I don't fucking have, and the box that should give me 16 ammo (which would just get me a LITTLE farther anyways) always gives me ED things.

This is by far the WORST game I have ever played in my life.

Dont remember having to do anything all that special there, but its been awhile and I remember the game being easy on the hardest difficulty. Worst game you've ever played? Turn down the rage mode and reaccess the portion you're on.

INB4 "You need capture card"

Broke the 4th wall in Skyrim and got to the White Gold Tower on the Xbox360. It wasnt easy to say the least.

I understand why they left this in the PC gmae but why in the console? Was the supposed to be full access to other Provinces?

it wasnt hours  took maybe 3 tries. and then i could just make whatever i wanted with the parts i already had. it seems dumb that i just exploited it.

but what is really stupid is them giving you access to end game armor in the first place . i dont remember what it was, iron-steel-elven-endgame. first town gives you iron, you might find some steel items in quests but the SECOND TOWN gives you everything/ cheap steel, elven and the end game armor. they should have maybe tossed in another town or two to split that shit up .

that being said, combat is insanely fun so for a long time i didnt mind being a god . but playing on hard and murdering everything eventually got old

i dont remember that part (vaguely, its just before you get the time gun, or just after). steam says i beat it in 7 hours though so im assuming from then on its easy mode.

anyone getting bioshock infinite? i gotta give a presentation on chromatography on tuesday so im looking forward to coming home for some BS

It was right after.

I just got Bioshock 1 in the mail and was looking forward to playing that or Rage today but the power strip that controls my TV, Stereo system, PS3, etc broke last night and I have to wait for my dad to get a new one.

I'm going to be honest the new Bioshock looks pretty fucking gay, its like outside instead if the creepy place in the original Bioshocks, you run around with some chick for whatever reason, the graphics look silly, as if they shifted their graphic designers to 9 year olds.

It may be a fun game but I have no doubt it will be nothing like Bioshock should be.

Meh, that aesthetic they nailed with the first has since been dragged through the dirt to mordor and back again by every game developer since that has wanted to evoke atmosphere. They needed to bring it to new terrain to keep it fresh and do good things, and I have no issue with the pallete having more colors, I think its looking rather well fleshed out personally.

i like how it is almost an opposite world within the same idea. utopia turning into dystopia. first it was under the sea, hidden from the world and dark. the new one is high in the sky and bright. both feel quite sinister in their own way and i like the steampunk feel to it. it also was stated that it wont be one long escort mission. so im assuming that means the girl will come and go (like any good woman)

im most excited for 1999 mode. there will be significantly less resources (bullets and health), and you will have a "lives" system where respawning at the vita chambers will cost you some sort of currency, and when you run out you have to start over. not sure how that will work, i imagine you get so many lives per level, and it resets in a new area of the game. also skill choices will feel more permanent, so you may start upgrading your shotgun and have to live with neglecting the sniper rifle. i read it wont quite make it a paper game, but will make you sit and think which one best compliments your playstyle. personally i always choose long range and accuracy above power or close quarter combat.
