The Gaming Thread

I started new Torchlight and D2 characters. Some may say I have a thirst that can only be quenched by more(secret)cow(level)bell.

L.A. Noir should be arriving soon, hopefully I conquer this abnormal allergy kick assery so I can start indulging...nay, living again.

LA Noir looks amazing I'm really looking forward to trying it out. Odd thing about it though, most of what I've seen is the cutscene stuff, I hardly know how the game plays and I still want it. lol

The Witcher 2 looks amazing. Could be the awesome RPG that Dragon Age 2 should have been. Gonna pick it up this weekend off Steam.

^I feel the same way. I played the first and I didn't care much for it because of the pointlessness of most of the game. I wasn't big on the combat system and the story was all over the map with menial quests in between like pick up eggs for grandma.... They also did a really sloppy job of introducing you to the main characters, they pretty much throw you at Triss Merigold and say "you like this girl, now get to business", meanwhile at this point in the game she was pissing me off and I wanted to get her out of my way. It is a shame the game had so many flaws, because the actual skill system and leveling up is really nice and had a lot of room for fun/experimentation.

The Witcher 2 looks so awesome that I want to try to get through Witcher 1, since they are directly connected and I think I'd lose a lot of the experience by skipping the first. Red Project promises that the complaints about the first are fixed, and the combat system is supposed to be quite improved. Not to mention the game is fucking GORGEOUS to look at.

^haha witcher one was i think my second purchase off steam, and ive completed like 10-15 other games in that time . and everything you mentioned is true, and only on harder difficulties does alchemy become important.

and yeah the combat is just so poor, its boring and yet demands your full attention, making it tedious

I never played the first so can't comment on that but... Witcher 2 is fucking awesome. I just got through the prelude portion, epic shit and tons of fun.

Then you are the man I want to talk to. You never played the first, so playing what you have of the second does it seem like you've missed a lot of story or information by skipping the first?
I really don't want to start a new game of the Witcher, I got about 60% or so through first time and that was enough, but I'm worried I'll be lost in the sequel if I don't.

Belac I'm just finishing up the prelude now but it does explain what happens at the end of the first game and why you are where you are now. There is a shitload of information and backstory in your journal too about the world and whats going on in it. I don't feel lost and from reviews I've read they said that it does help to have played the first cause you'll catch things and maybe understand a bit more, but definitely not needed to enjoy Witcher 2. Get it bro, it's awesome.
