What is your opinion and your favorite extreme metal albums?

Well, for me:

Slayer-Show No Mercy (when it came out...)
Possessed 7 Churches definitely
Malevolent Creation 10 Commandments
Exodus-Bonded by Blood - When THRASH was still underground...

Of course, I'm 33, and I'm talking when these albums were new...

Compared to new stuff, now, they're all pretty mellow... heh

My picks:
For the development of modern death metal:
  • Slayer - Reign in Blood
  • Possessed - Seven Churches
  • Death - Scream Bloody Gore
  • Morbid Angel - Abominations of Desolation
For the development of modern black metal:
  • Venom - Black Metal
  • Bathory - Under the Sign of the Black Mark
  • Celtic Frost - Emperor's Return/Morbid Tales
  • Mayhem - Deathcrush
And an honorable mention for recent melodic death:
  • At the Gates - Slaughter of the Soul
Of course there are many more influential albums out there, but I've just listed what came to mind right away.

Whoever said Obituary "World Demise" doesn't know anything about Obituary.

Can I add Godflesh "Pure" or "Streetcleaner"? I think that would be appropriate. They influenced a lot of bands.

Blackmetal:

Bathory
Darkthrone
Dimmu Borgir
Dissection
Emperor
Gorgoroth
Immortal
Mayhem
Satyricon

Deathmetal:

Cannibal Corpse
Deicide
Obituary
(Slayer) -I know it ain´t death, but I only write for death & black, and Slayer are pioneers!

Ehh... Get a grip people. How can something be most influential if it hasn't been even 10 years from its release?

Black metal was right on the money with his CDs though I'd replace Celtic Frost's To Mega Therion with Hellhammer's Apocalyptic Raids.

I think St. Vitus made a pretty good list!
That list doesn't include any of my favorites though. My favorites in extreme metal (which rules out Type O Negative, Guns N' Roses, 3rd & The Mortal, Theatre of Tragedy & Iron Maiden), are:
Opeth: “Blackwater park”
Burzum: “Hvis lyset tar oss”
Satyricon: “The Shadowthrone”
Satyricon: “Nemesis Divina”
(Machine Head: “Burn my eyes”) - I don't know if this qualifies...?
Mayhem: “De Mysteriis dom Sathanas”
Dimmu Borgir: “Enthrone Darkness Triumphant”
Opeth: “My arms your hearse”
Emperor: “IX Equilibrium”
Emperor: “In the nighside eclipse”
Limbonic Art: “Moon in the Scorpio”
(Pantera “Far beyond driven”) - I don't know if this qualifies either...?
Burzum: “Det som engang var”
Thorns: “Thorns”
Arturus: "Aspera Hiems Symfonia"

I wouldn't say any of these are any of the most influencial extreme metal albums of all time though. I don't think you could ask a black metal band their inspirations and they would say Dimmu Borgir's "Enthrone Darkness triumphant" and get as many "votes" on that, as you would get on Bathory, Venom & Destruction. The albums I mentioned wasn't exactly something new when they came out.
I also think MacMoney has a good point in "How can something be most influential if it hasn't been even 10 years from its release?"

Hmm...most influential metal albums:
King Diamond Abigail
Mercyful Fate Nuns Have No Fun demo (L)
Metallica Master of Puppets
Megadeth Rust in Peace

Cradle of Filth Cruelty and the Beast
Judas Priest (Can't remember the album title)
Black Sabbath Black Sabbath
Slayer Seasons in the Abyss
Sepultura Arise
Arch Enemy (pick one lol)
Carcass Heartwork
Coroner Mental Vortex
Any NWOBHM band (especially Diamond Head)
