The Occult and Opeth

Naboo: This is black magic. This is hardcore. Don't mess with the occult.
Vince Noir: I thought it was good for you.
Naboo: What?
Vince Noir: Well, you know, good for your digestive system.
Naboo: That's Yakult!
Vince Noir: Oh, yeah...

They like the occult

...

for them to poop on.

On a serious note: I think I read that mikael was interested in the occult side in a psychological way. Not really in the occult scene as it is. More in what draws people into the occult and other psychological deviances. At that moment it was on how someone can be convinced that he or she is 'possessed' by something.

Did you know Cannibal Corpse actually kill and eat people as well? Because all bands themes and lyrics have to be directly linked to them in a personal non metaphorical way. You cannot sing about things that haven't happened to you directly, and thus many power metal bands have died in action fighting for their lands, falling in battle and slaying great beasts... :waah:

I second that.... however, this is closer than any of Dement's threads so far.

Dement: You're 1 click away from the FAQ at the top of this page which has this little tidbit:

"Are Opeth religious or anti-religous?

[Peter Lindgren]"We are atheists; we are not religious at all. At the same time we're not anti-religious either. The occult is an interesting topic to write about and read about but it's not extreme at all - like I said, we are just regular guys, but if people want to think were evil, then that's cool!"

The occult and such related subject matter has been discussed ad nauseam in almost every interview the Ålmighty Åkerfeldt has ever done. Google search "Opeth Interviews" ..... That should keep you busy for at least a week. See you then!

No. They're not anti-religious in that they don't bash religion or bash those who have one. They wouldn't be the ones to write a song titled "God Hates Us All."

Obviously, since they don't believe in god...
Anti-religion is the exact opposite of people writing songs titled "God Hates Us All".

A Christian could write a song entitled "God Hates Us All" as well as anyone.

They have the ability to create fiction as well as any of us. They probably wouldn't however, but plenty of bands sing about God who aren't Christian or Satanists or whatever. Its just a choice of what you want to sing about, you don't have to be confined to your own beliefs, just like a Christian actor or director making a film about another religion or the occult or something.
