The official FIFA World Cup Deutschland 2006 Thread

In general, you are correct, but you forget that the ref gave Boulahrouz a yellow card for a foul that should have been a dark red plus a 2 year ban, same thing for the foul by Meira I think, who kicked Robben in the chest.
I dont know if the ref was in too bad a position to see those 2 fouls, but afterwards, there was just no way to control the game anymore. The cards were correct afterwards, but not enough to calm the match

I just can believe how lucky the Italians are, to score a goal from a penalty which was non exsistant in the 95min after a game of pure fucktardness. The Australians deserved to win.

hey, you seemed so nice until yesterday, and now you badmouth the italian team. not the way to go! ;)

to be honest, the game was horrid, and the team played so badly that yes, the australians deserved to win. still, i'm glad they didn't.

Yes, he dived there really nicely, I believed it was foul at first, too, and I guess that says it all - the ref couldnt see it. But he shouldntve whistled it anyway, although the solo of the Italian player was the only action worth seeing from the Italian point of view. What a shame.

Yeah, the Australians deserved to win, I was really hoping they'd go to quarter finals, tough I had a moral debate ith myself, since I go with Italy. In the end I supported the Italian team :kickass: .

Well yeah, the penalty wasn't really one, but we have to admit it was a really good play, probably the best 9and only) play of Italy, so they partly desrved the goal.

I nearly screamed my lungs out whrn Totti scored, I thought he was going to miss it. I was like: 'tis all coming baaaack to meeeee nooooow, Roberto DiBaggio missing the penalty against Brazil on the WC USa '94  , ah what a pity.

Now with the other game, I didn't watch it all, since I was with, *ahem* my girlfriend, and my TV in the room doesn't have antenna, so sorry Marduk, I couldn't apply yer avise today hehe :p .

Wow the penaties as always were crazy. I couldn't believe it when Ukraine missed their shot, and then Switzerland. I was like o_O . 'Tis a pity that Switzerland couldn't score a goal, a bit humillating IMO.
Ah well I was hoping Ukraine'd win, so I'm happy :) .

Now lets hope that Gahan kicks some fucking Brazilian ass tommorrow!!! GO GHANA GO!!! :headbang: :kickass:

And I also hope that Spain wins, France doen't deserve to be where it is. IMO it'll be an easy match for Spain, lets hope they win, they've been really good. Unlike Brazil, which suck, so they desrve to loose.

Well, at least you applied your antenna, so all is fine.

On topic, I couldnt watch the second half of UKR-SUI, because of the huge storm here, the TV went bye bye. And cause it was also fucking hot, I didnt even apply my antenna. :erk:

I don't agree that Brazil sucks. I think that they were saving up strength, doing only what was strictly necessary in the first matches. Now they seem to have found themselves and they're offering a very good show (at least for me).

Well, Brazil sucked again, but was able to score twice, so all is good. :p Ghana played well, alas, no goals.

France owned Spain! Yes! I just dont like Spain, they kicked us out in the barrage match with a great help of the referee (who was btw. involved in that scandal in Italy, so diplomacy worked for sure). France played very well, Zidane did a good job. I am happy with the 2 days off! :)

I know that it looked like a penalty at first and thats my whole point. It is fucking 2006, they have satellites and cameras and computers and sensors and headpieces and what the fuck not. Things shouldn't be done this way, people make mistakes and that is understandable but they should just freeze the game for 5 seconds, someone should see the replay and tell the referee via his headpiece that it wasn't a penalty. Why is that so hard to do?

@Cuthalion: because even in ice-hockey it takes several minutes to do that, and that would ruin a football match. BUT if it would be possible within a few seconds, Im all for it, I think the ref influenced the game also in the FRA-ESP match - yes, the defender tackled the player, but again, the Spanish player just fell down like if he was hit with a club.

Thuram stomped on his ankle, I dont know what other choices he had than fall down like a brick.
The penalty for Italy was deserved, because the australian tackled him so stupidly. I mean, where was he trying to go anyway? He just fell into his knees and the italian had to fall over him, what was the ref supposed to do other than whistle?

The penalty for Sweden was undeserved though, you could see Larsson stepping in front of Metzelder so he would run him over. Metzelder intended to kick away the ball, while Larsson was only going for the foul, he didnt even step towards the ball

I think this is the World Cup of Big-Teams-winning-although-they-play-shitty. I mean why are brazil, england and france in the quarter finals? they played so shitty and spain should've owned france because spain played even better in their first game versus Ukraine than France played in the whole first round.
Brazil plays like a number-2-brazilian team and wins a bit luckily (that 2-0 was SO offside, the ref MUST'VE seen it). And England always has its well-Beckham-free-kick-lucky-goal-and-then-we-don't-need-to-play-anymore.
The only teams that deserve to stand in the quarter finals are in my opinion Germany, Argentina, Italy and Portugal.

I totally agree with you!!! Specially with Brazil, f*^*^ crap, they play so terrible, yet they win because of strokes of luck and because they intimidate.

And although France played better yesterday, theyy didn't deserve to be in 8-finals, much less in quarter finals.

Spain desrved to win, big time.

Now I'm having a moral dilemma with the macth between Argentina and Germany, since I want both teams to win.... Damn.

I think Germany and Argentina are meeting too early. It would be a good final, it's a shame that one of them has to go in the quarter finals. I like both teams, but I appreciate it more if Germany wins, of course.

NOOOOOOOOO GErmany WOOOOON!!!!

Dman it, life is so unfair sometimes, isn't it?

Fucking referee didn't call like 3 penalties in favor of Argentina!!!

Argentina should have won, Argentina should be in semi-finals. Yet they aren't, all because of that stupid referee!!!

Now really, the referees on this WC have been really, but I mean really lousy. "tis the worst I have ever seen in any WC.

Anyway, at leats Argentina knows that they were a much superior team *claps* *buuus to Germany*

Now lets see how the Italy vs. Ukraine game will turn out, I like both teams, though I would like more that Ukraine won, they really have done a good ob getting to quarter-finals. Although Italy is Italy...

Avanti Squadra Azzurra!!!

I'll be happy no matter which team wins :p .

None of them played really good but Argentina did too little through the game and Germany punished it for that.

Now let's hope Italy will finally get kicked out, it's a pain to watch them play. :)

Unfair? no because anyway Germany won with "penalties" at the end, and Argentina couldnt score all theirs :p

I have to go downtown Bremen tonight. When Germany won last time, people were blocking the tramway right in the middle of the city ... which mean the connexion I have to take will maybe not be able to ride...

you're making me become sympathetic with the three-finger cause. and the middle-finger cause, too. :D

Are you on drugs or something? :err:
Maxi Rodrigues' dive was hilarious, the yellow card the natural consequence. He didnt complain either so there you go. What other 2 penos are you refering to?

I think today's match was very much like checkers on grass. Germany didnt play too nicely, but neither did Argentina. Both teams kinda evened the other out. I actually saw Argentina in front, but the 1:1 was deserved. The penalties were luck as usual, but ours were nicely done I find :)
