You're finally getting it! :loco:

Seriously, though. You can't possibly argue that the youth culture is healthier today than it was a decade and a half ago...

EDIT.. that was strange...

I don't think anybody could possibly argue for or against that, since nobody has been a part of both...but I also don't think that any "degradation" that's taken place since "the good old days" has much to do with multiculturalism, but rather, once again, mercantilism and marketing. It's old rich white men that are exploiting youth that are the problem. And the Jews.

the only problem is that you are referring to issues that have been constant for a very long time. but I am sensing that this debate is entering a spiral, so I am going to let it go from here. Have a fine evening, Sir!

You mean mercantile manipulation or the older generation bitching about how shitty the newer generation is? :p I think there's a case to be made for both that the modern times are different than those in the past, and that everything is exponentiated today as opposed to even 2000. I think media manipulation and cultural depravity are at modern time highs, and I think they probably go hand in hand for a long way. But yeah, this debate isn't going to go anywhere, so it's best to just drop it...you can have the last word if you want it, since I managed to squeak out another.

I believe (mainstream) youth culture today is in an abhorrent state of affairs. Mysogeny and violence are on the rise to levels not seen for decades, the ideal of a man becoming a "gentleman" is dead, instead he grows into a dense corporate brute in pursuit of material wealth and all along the way the morals of treating the community you're part of is almost entirely discarded. It's not good.

Sadly, I must agree with this. It's ironic actually - Crimson I don't know about you (with both of us being in our thirties), but certainly find myself scrutinising the younger generations, especially Gen Y (which, imo for the most part are a waste of DNA)... sometimes I think its either legitimate scrutinisation or perhaps I'm simply following the trait of becoming more whingy as I get older :erk:

Aside from the fact that we all feel passionately about our political convictions, I think it's safe to say we've all conducted ourselves pretty well here, the discussion is constructive imo :kickass: Just as well we're all not all sitting drinking at a pub talking about this!

this is mostly bullshit. Even as much as I like you hubster (no homo), you can look up stats on juvenile deliquency and they are down almost across the board (I am talking about the US).

Have you done this research? If so, present it. And that still has nothing to do with the state of the culture. Just look around you. Look at what's popular, that should be enough to demonstrate to you that the culture is not in it's healthiest state.

I had to do research about violent videogames and their impact a while ago

stats on juvenile crime and deliquency were down across the board in nearly every stat in the US, this was a while ago so I don't have the research available with me right now.

Indeed. I remember quite vividly how it went when we discussed the legitimacy of ANUS reviews. Certainly, the gentleman ideal was not championed by us that day. :erk:

speaking of anus.com

anybody else mystified at how they are supporting bands like gorgoroth and marduk? I thought that was exactly the type of bands that anus.com despises
