I hate that I'll be out of town for the home opener, on a Friday, and against the Mets to boot! :wah: I can't wait to see Smoltzy as a starter again. I'm getting up and getting to work early tomorrow so I can be home in time to catch at least most of the game.

If I were you I'd wait for Smoltz's second start :loco: You will be pretty disapointed as he will be in big trouble tomorrow facing Delgado and my Marlins :D

But you can take the division. :) I am pretty happy with the Wild Card.. As long as we keep our 6-0 post season series record :loco:

Just ~17 more hours and I'll be at OUR home opener!!!! CAN YOU TELL I'M EXCITED???? I'm also real excited cause I just went with my friend and he bought a boat!!! Yes, I do realize that has NOTHING to do with baseball or music or anything really but I'm SO excited!! A BOAT!! WOO!!

Y'know, I'll root for the Bravos because I'm from Atl., but if it came to any other team, I'd root for the Cubbies. Their fans are the most patient on Earth and deserve no less. :D

Well, I was born in St. Louis- was a huge Cardinals fans- but since moving to New York in '77, I was a Mets fans when they sucked AND when they won it all(in the Gary Carter days- woo hoo!), but have been a die hard Braves fan since 1987. Who says girls can't love baseball!!

I've been a huge Braves fan since elementary school! I had to wear #3 for my man Dale Murphy back in the day! As a Braves fan, I enjoy hating the Yankees! They're fun to hate though! Kind of like, if your a Tennessee Vol fan, and you missed hating Steve Spurrier at Florida!!!

If I had a second team, I'd probably go for the Cleveland Indians, and I don't have a clue why! I've just always liked them for some reason!

The Cubbies are definitely mine (& my Mom's) secodn favorite team... I was going to try to catch Sunday's game while I'm in Chicago but alas! Those plans fell through. My mom, of course, was going to be very mad at me if I got to go to Wrigley Field without her, though, so maybe it's for the best!! lol

As for girls liking baseball, well... I think we're the best fans. :)

I live in Atlanta but I am a huge Met fan. I do root for the Braves but not against the Mets and if (more like wishful thinking)the two are in a race for a playoff spot then I would go against the Braves more.
The Mets annoyed me already yesturday with terrible relief work

My second team is definitely the Cardinals. I felt so bonded with them after playing them last year. That series was such a stressful, emotional time for all of us cause we wanted it so bad but I wouldn't have rather lost to any other team. They truly are a class act organization so from now I'll root them along as long as they're not playing my 'Stros. GO CARDS!!!

Damn. We have a TON of Braves fans. I could NEVER be a Braves fan. My very first ever pro baseball game (my dad took me when I was ~9) we played the Braves and lost. I hated the stupid chant and of course, the fact that we lost. I've been scarred ever since - HAHA!! Stupid, I know.

lol!

It's weird......the Braves have a lot of fans across the country because, back when their games were carried on TBS via satellite, they were often the only team that folks in the hinterlands could watch regularly. Locally, though, Braves fans are...pathetically apathetic: their team consistently reaches the post-season and the games don't even sell out. I include myself somewhat in that harsh analysis, too -- although I would have bought tickets to a playoff game last year if they all hadn't been on weeknights!

Here's a general question to ponder:

WHY do you like baseball, over (say) football, basketball or hockey?

To answer your question Pellaz, it's the game I grew up playing. My grandfather had a lot of influence on me at an early age, because he'd watch baseball every single day! I grew up idolizing my cousin Rodney, a major metal head back in the day, and that's what he played too. Basically, I decided when I was a kid that all the cool guys, in my mind anyway, played baseball, so I wanted to play! Later on, I played high school baseball, and my positions was first base and some relief pitching, but I thought I sucked! Overtime, it just got in my blood, and I've never been able to shake it! It's kind of like I give credit to Whitesnake for making me a metalhead! Their 87 s/t album was the first album I owned, and it blew me away! I remember the guitar riffs, and I was like, now that's what I'm talkin' about!!! I've loved metal ever since!

Hmmm... a few years ago I would have said there's much more strategy involved and the athletes are generally more the kind of 'athletic' I like, but then I got hooked on football... I guess it's really more that my mom's been a much bigger baseball fan historically than other sports, combined with the fact that when I really started watching baseball on my own (about age 16-17, '90-'91) was when the Braves were starting to come together. I played softball as a kid, but I played basketball, too, and though my basketball team was far superior ('87 USAREUR champs! Whoo-hoo!) I can't generally be bothered with it, so I don't think that's much of a factor. :)

P.S. Not such a good start so far for Smoltzy or the Bravos. :p

I think it is cool more and more girls are enjoying various sports. I see alot of girls going to hockey games for example. I know that my last girlfriend enjoyed going to sporting events with me.

I love all sports. Hockey is my main winter sport followed slightly behind basketball(which thanks to my pistons and current home team the suns) has moved up alittle.
I enjoy football but still think hockey is king.

As for summer, there is just something about baseball and lazy summer afternoons where you can take a date, bring your family, teach your kids the rules, connect with your grandpa and dad on what you think pisses you off most about your manager's game decisions from the previous day's game :Spin:

It is almost like what was said in the movie- city slickers when the girl asks why guys go so crazy over baseball knowing all the stats and what not. My dad and I really aren't the best communicators towards each other but we can enjoy an afternoon at the old ball park.

MY REPORT:
Well, it was kind of a crappy baseball day for me. The Yankees won (boo) although the Braves did lose which makes me happy. I went to HS with Josh Beckett so it's nice to see him kicking some A. The Cards pretty much whooped us in our very own home opener. We had a bit of a screaming match with the girl (who was an Astros fan - well not really. I don't even think she knew what sporting event she was at) next to us and made great friends with the guys in front of us who were Card fans. One was even in from St. Louis. Go figure!! Ah well....... I was just happy to be a part of opening day with the boys. I only got one "Beltran SUCKS!" comment (cause I was wearing my Houston Beltran jersey) but it's all good cause we all know no matter how bad he may have done Houston THE BOY DOES NOT SUCK!! That's as bad as the a-hole behind me yelling "THE CARDINALS SUCK!!" I was like, no. NO, they really don't. They're actually very good.

I don't know what it is about baseball that I love so much. I grew up playing tournament ball myself so I've always enjoyed it. I love football and hockey as well (basketball puts me to sleep unless I'm actually playing) but there is just something about basebell that makes me a HAPPY GIRL!

I LOVE ALBERT PUJOLS!!

Locally, though, Braves fans are...pathetically apathetic: their team consistently reaches the post-season and the games don't even sell out.

They're probably sick of seeing their team choke year after year. Thirteen straight pennants, and one WS championship??
