Dream Theater - only the most famous prog metal band today; with exceptions of Fates Warning, Rush and Yes.

Others to check out...

Symphony X
Liquid Tension Experiment (1&2)
Transatlantic
Spock's Beard
Plattypus
Fates Warning
Yes
Rush
Shadow Gallery
Gordion Knot
Jordan Rudess - solo
John Petrucci - all solo material
most of Steve Morse's work
Opeth (although people don't consider them prog, I do)
King Crimson
Tony MacAlpine - solo

Yeah... prog metal 0wns!

Echosilence...
Opeth...

That's about all for progressive, now for some technical:

Cynic,
Watchtower
Spastic Ink
Spiral Architect
Athiest
Obliveon

you know the rest. :D

some prog faves of mine that have not already been mentioned :

Leviathan (had to get used to the singer, but once that had been gotten over, I fell for them)

Ice Age (check out No Surrender(Lhasa Road))

Lanfear (one of the most varied bands I ever heard, just check out Zero Poems)

Adramelch (their 1989 (??) debut Irae Melanox is a forgotten masterpiece of Prog and has recently been rereleased by the obscure Reborn Classics label. One the best ever.)

Queensryche and of course Psychotic Waltz!!! (Pity they broke up in 1997.... )
Pink Floyd.... Is anybody out there listening to them nowadays??? :err:
And as far as I saw we forgot to mention DEATH!!!

can't seem to get into pink floyd.
same thing with queensryche.
but psychotic waltz have some marvelous tunes.

some more recommendations :

Soul Cages (highly melodic and intricate)

Payne's Grey (dark, made a concept album based on H.P.
Lovecraft's The Dream-Quest For Unknown Kadath : Kadath Decoded.)

you can get all Kadath Decoded and the Mini-CD (can't remember the name) on audiogalaxy, since I always keep those files in my shared folder :) )

Rough Silk (kinda savatage like, but more german ;))

did anybody mention Ayreon yet ?

Rocket Scientists (only for those who can take a healthy dose of Minimoog )

Dali's Dilemma (don't ask me, yet :loco: )

Fates Warning
Mekong Delta
Sieges Even
Zero Hour
Reading Zero
Mystic Force
Wolverine (do yourselves the favor of checking them out)
Catharsis (US CD: "Pathways to wholeness"... kicks ass)
Mind Over Four (these guys are paranoic in the veins of Psychotic Waltz)
Thresshold (british magic band)
Visionary (S/T very melodic. Awesome!)
Lethal
Dream Child
Voivod
Megace (Technical thrash)
CORONER
Ivanhoe
Vigilante
Last Warning
Destiny Dreaming
Time Machine (the best Italian Prog Band imo)

the ones that are mentioned by Trapped, TexasFC and Vylance X...
...
...
(Traped this is 4 u) and ofcourse Martyr

And here come the good ones...
Sercrecy
Jesters March
End Amen (this is a project of Psychotic Waltz members)

Germany is a treasure for prog fans...

BTW... does anyone know a band by the name "Mermedion Creed"? I am seeking to listen to them.

And some more...
Taramis "Stretch of imagination" (in the veins of Watchtower/Hades in their first period)
HADES (i am a big fan of them)
Harrow
Heir Apparent "One small Voice"
Eldritch
Veni Domine (they have three albums out - yes i own them all, hehe -... they play a mix of doom/power/epic/progressive. they kick ass!!! their latest "Spiritual Wasteland) is their most progressive one)

What definition would u give?

This has been asked by Trapped in the past, but i am bringing it up again, as i see more progressive minded dudes here!
