The Thread Where You Talk About Music You Like

I wish "The Erl King" was on youtube. Those three songs are Pagan Altar at their emotive peak.

You really do. Mythical and Magical is actually my least favorite of the three, though I know a few people on this board think it's their best. It just doesn't have any "Sentinels of Hate" or "Judgement of the Dead." That said, everything the band has done tends to be better than everything most bands have done. And you're absolutely right about the Jethro Tull influence. Maybe more bands should be influenced by Tull. Then again, everything Pagan Altar's done was written between 1977 and 1983 or thereabout for the most part, so that probably has something to do with it as well.

Yeah, the time period definitely has something to do with it. I love the fact that all their stuff was written then but is being released now; it bears such an authenticity. Their music and their aura just feels like it rises up out of the mists of the past.

Tull achieves the same thing with lots of their music; I'd definitely like to hear what Pagan Altar has to say about Tull's influence on them.

"The Erl King" is, indeed, fucking amazing, and I loved researching the poem by Goethe after learning that's what the song's lyrics are based on. Great, great stuff. So emotional.

Has anyone else grabbed the new Fjoergyn record, Jahreszeiten? It's so wonderful. The music is so well composed. It might be their finest record yet, although Ernte Im Herbst is still (so far) my favorite. But grab the new record if you can find it - you will not be disappointed.
