I'm glad I gave Acid Bath like 40 chances because they finally clicked.

EDIT: Proof of how much of a fanboy I have become: I just switched off Dopesmoker at the 25 minute mark to listen to Acid Bath.

Note: it was the second spin in a row of Dopesmoker so I don't feel too bad.

So I listened / watched most of that rare shit from Skeletal Circus, awesome stuff. Pretty sure the live Acid Bath video was recorded at the local death metal shithole out here, a place where everybody hates but has to go sometimes. Saw a near riot there when Dissection took too long to hit the stage many years back, keen. Also a friend's band met the ubiquitous "dude from Testament" there, who really liked them and would see what he could do to advance them in their musical life, which of course did absolutely nothing.

It took me years to appreciate Acid Bath, I had heard them in passing on occasion starting when they were still around, then tried a serious listen with Doomy mailed me some CD-Rs a few years ago, but man. Shit just didn't stick. So eventually I said "fuck this shit," and just bought both albums, determined to sit down and unravel the mystery. It worked, and I have been infatuated with them, along with all of Dax Riggs's'zs'ss stuff, ever since.

Oddly enough, the only band I can possible compare them to would be Failure, the path toward which I followed in much the same way. They sound nothing alike, and don't even feel similar, but they reach me in nearly the same place, in almost identical fashion.
