Yeah now that I think of it there are other bands that have albums like that. Flotsam first two sounded pretty good whereas WTSCD didn't sound so good. The Cuatro and Drift sounded great but the High didn't sound so great. Same with Testament. Kinda of all over the place until The Ritual. Then they're all pretty good.
Having a major label back then has really come to be a detriment to bands that didn't make it really big. They just can't get their albums back even though the label will never do anything with them.
There should be some kind of law that says if a label hasn't done anything with an album in 20 years that the band should have the opportunity to buy them back at a reasonable price.
Yeah his laugh is great and evil. But when you hear it on half the album it starts to sound a little silly.
Yeah definitely. It's such a shame none of this stuff will ever get it's due.I think just about all the albums you guys mentioned suffer from some kind of harsh high end and the bottom is lacking not doing them the true justice they truly deserve,Studio mistakes for sure.
Yeah there really didn't seem to be a standard. Ad who you chose really mattered a lot. There also has to be something in the technology in the studio. They might all have had 48 channel desks but not every desk was the same, not ever studio was the same. Gary Holt was saying the other day about how this album they were able to just mic up everything like they did in the old days. It would not have been a stretch to think one studio was massively different to another.
I don't know why. But it's really funny to think of tapes as technology.Although of course it is.
Well I'm not sure about here either. But I think it's basically all on the deal you signed. But at some point things do become public domain.
Yeah I don't understand why the record companies would hold this stuff either. 30 years now for some of this stuff with nothing done. but they won't let the band get it back. It makes no sense. In Testaments case with Atlantic I think it might be spite. but then again I doubt any of those people still work there.
I'm gonna say 3-5 per album. with only two of the songs being able to be next to each other.
Lol. I had a discussion with this guy on Youtube about Alice In Chains. My position being that over all AIC is a metal band. Not thrash obviously, but Metal. Very polished, very Sabbathy riffs and bass. His position is seemingly only based on geography and the year. I simply stated my argument, based on sound, talent and their own words on Headbangers Ball..and then again and again. Finally I said. Ok well after reading some more things. He did say a few days ago they were Grunge. But then the week before he said how important metal was. So it seems they can be wishy washy about it.
He having none of it and says. I know what Grunge is, they are Grunge.
I think ok no compromise.
So I copy and paste Jerry from an article where he says. Back in 1996, Cantrell told Guitar World magazine that ALICE IN CHAINS was "part of the metal thing. We're a lot of different things, too. I don't quite know what the mixture is, but there's definitely metal, blues, rock and roll, maybe a touch of punk... The metal part will never leave us. And I never want it to.". Direct quotes from Jerry.
He just comes back with. I'm from Seattle I know what Grunge is and AIC is definitely Grunge. this will be my last post on the subject as I have things to do.
So I'm just gonna go ahead and call that a win.![]()
Yeah there really didn't seem to be a standard. Ad who you chose really mattered a lot.
Yeah they've really been able to justify their greed and keep it going. I understand them wanting to get something back as well, that's fair. But they don't seem to really want it. They just want to keep it all locked up.I've got a 1/4 inch reel to reel here that would like to met your new tape technology
The sad thing is that such music stealing goes back 50+ years. These bastard record companies have been doing it so long it's second nature. Things might have improved these days but I bet it still happens. I can understand the labels wanting something for the massive outlays they have to give bands to record etc but you'd reckon there would be something in the contract that offers the music back at time in the future.
Well the new Exodus is here on Friday so if there is more than 5 laughs I make sure you don't get a copy
The first time AIC toured here they toured with Suicidal Tendencies, shit I wonder if they were punk/crossover/trash/skate/metal too![]()
That's all we've got! Do remeber in the last two years or so Flotsam saying they got NPFD back? I think I do?One can still hope!

Lol, when was the last time he used that laugh? I'm not sure he did it on Blood In Blood Out?
Hahaha they probably were!

But then where is it?! And I don't want that stupid 2014 version.
Yeah them getting the masters is much more recent than the re recording of NPFD. You're right Doomsday has been remastered (Metal Blade) the three MCA records have been remastered. Elektra was the hold out. I'm not who owns the Crash label stuff or the other one. both were the bass player? from Korn's labels. that was a big mistake. He screwed them on one album. Went out of business. then he started another label and they signed with him again. With pretty much the same result. Hopefully they have a better deal with AFM.Who were they getting it back from? Must be Elecktra because surely Metal Blade wouldn't keep one and give them back the rights to their first album? Although it appears only the masters are not theirs to re-release that's why the re-recorded.
Some labels are more dickish than others too. Like Elektra and Atlantic.
Hahaha just saw your post. Yeah it had to be Elektra. I know they tried to get it from them for a very long time.

Oh it was Metal Blade/Elektra wasn't it? Yeah it's gotta be something with them. Weird because they only put out one video for that album. How much could they possibly have been in the hole to them for?Yeah well DFTD was Metal Blade NPFD was Metal Blade/Elektra. So I figured it would be odd that MB only held onto one. Maybe it's something in the name Elektra?
Yeah where the hell is that import anyway?!!!Whatever is in their new deal it's got that weird clause where Japanese people get extra songs!
