The what's going on in Thrash thread

Single next week album in September. 3 months ago it was album in July. We'll have forgotten who Megadeth is if this single isn't the best song ever released :)

Maybe the delays are due to supply chain issues? All these delays are making me suspect the deth are about to drop a turd. Then again, maybe the delay is due to Digorgio laying down new bass tracks to ensure Ellefson receives no writing credits or money from this album.

Good on Maiden for helping out Di'anno. I saw him live about a decade or so ago and he looked to be in bad shape then and his vocal performance was subpar. At the next show at the same divebar the bouncer told me that he was asked to help Di'Anno onto and off the tour bus. Thats a tough situation for everyone...I am sure Di'anno has to look at all that Maiden have accomplished without him and wonder if he could have had that lifestyle and at the same time I am sure Maiden, or at least Harris, is sad to see Paul going through all that. Kind of a Syd Barret and Pink Floyd situation right?

According to Dave the bass tracks were redone months ago. It could be a supply issue and maybe they are waiting until the vinyl can be released with the CD, I don't know for sure, but I do know the dates keep changing. However he's definitely bitten the bullet for the single to be released this week.

Don't expect much

I've never been a huge fan of Di'anno or his mouth. He does seem to have mellowed a bit in the last few years but for me he's always been an arrogant prick. I've got his bio here and he pretty much blames Maiden for everything that went down. His drug and alcohol use, his abuse, his lack of effort all had nothing to do with him being sacked from the band. I prefer his solo stuff to his time with Maiden, but I'm still not a huge fan of that.

I suppose it's a good thing that Maiden are helping him out, as they have helped out other ex members, but I do wonder where his money has gone given that he might not ever have been a millionaire but he must still be getting royalties. One thing I did read a few years ago, when he was trying to get a gofundme happening, was that he chose not to use the relatively free UK medical system in favour of private hospitals but he couldn't afford it himself. At that time he was all mouthy about who should help and who should pay for things because he was Paul and he deserved better treatment than the public health system. I think it's a good thing Paul and Steve seem to have buried the hatchet after all these years but I do wonder how long it will be before Paul's mouth opens again.

Once upon a time not too long ago these would get posted before I woke so I found them before breakfast not after breakfast when it's time to get the kids up for school!

Nice setlist and they still put on a great live show. I saw F & J back in 2015 or 2016 with Hatchet and Exmortus as the support acts. They put on a good show and even played the Saturday Night cover! :kickass:

It has to be a little awkward playing a festival crowd when you are on stage and it is clear that the fans are there for your band or they aren't digging your tunes.

Eric made a comment the other day on FB about how the venue they played at didn't like them much. He didn't elaborate on why but did suggest they'd given it their best anyway. The fill in drummer (I can't remember his name) looks like a kid compared to the rest of the band.

It's good to see bands can overcome things like an audience that is really just there waiting for another band to come on because I would reckon it happens a lot more these days with all the festival gigs that happen.

Just getting around to watching all of the Flotz video above. The crowd does seem a bit lack lustre, but it that means more shots of the band and they look pretty tight on stage. AK's vocals and the power with which he delivers them are pretty bloody amazing for a guy that's been doing it 40 years. Half the time Gilbert looks like he's part of some secret joke no one else has heard, but they whole band still put in an amazing effort and the clarity of the camera is excellent.

The crowd is an interesting comparison to Alestorm's crowd earlier in the day (and on a different stage). Alestorm's crowd was extremely active from the first song, multiple circle pits, multiple people up in the air at a time. The crowd really took time to get into Flotz, they obviously don't have good taste :)

Marco Prij, the drummer, even thanks the band for the chance to play in the comments section.
There's also a comment from some guy named redfly suggesting they are the greatest band ever. Seeing a performance like this where the crowd are far from the best the comment certainly has merit.

As near as I can tell the new Megadeth single is due to drop in 9 and a bit hours.
I've just finished watching Megadeth at Graspop and while the band does seem fairly tight with the songs they play there is no escaping the fact that Megadeth always has been and always will be about MegaDave. Megadeth is a bit like Gene and Paul want KISS to be, they think as long as there is masks on stage KISS will continue. With Megadeth as long as Dave is there it really doesn't matter who the players are Megadeth is there.
That said it's obvious Dave has gotten old, he looks like an old man, and that white facial fungus really adds 10 years to his looks. But can he still sing? The answer is yes, but in many parts it is different to what we've come to know and love as Megadeth. There is no mistaking it's him, his voice hasn't changed that much, but there is also no mistaking that he can't hit the same notes he used to. I remember Kiko saying in an interview that this isn't a greatest hits tour it's a tour of what Dave can sing in his current condition. For that reason I do think the set list lacks a bit of punch, but Dave still does a commendable job.

If nothing else watching the Graspop gig has me intrigued as to what the new album is going to sound like. Guess we'll find out more in 9 hours (or for me in about 18 hours when I wake up tomorrow morning.

Brings the intensity! Not sure if I like the jingoistic pro-war message, but that may just be the far left liberal in me speaking.

That is understandable and to be expected at this point.

Fair point and I agree. It always has and always will be the Dave Mustaine show. When I saw the deth live for the first time 20 years or so ago I remember how impressed I was with Dave Mustaine's stage presence. I don't think I have ever seen another musician/singer command the stage like he does...maybe King Diamond. He is a showman and he has the fucking chops to put on a hell of a show and make it look easy, well, he used to be able to do that.

I don't look too deep into the message, sure it's there, but just like death metal bands add a heap of horror and gore, or bands like Alestorm take the piss out of themselves, it's just images on a screen. I don't need to buy into the thoughts of the writer to like what I hear.

For me the song is a lot different to what I heard on the Graspop video. Dave's got speed, power, there is riffing (stolen from his own songs) and solos that all make this sound a lot closer to older Megadeth than their live show of this week. Sure the studio makes anyone sound different but Dave's really sounding like a guy that could go on another decade or two in this where as even in some interviews that's been sceptical of late.

Yeah, Dave's always been the showman. in 92 when I saw them for the first time there was no mistaking that Dave was the guy leading and running everything. From ordering the security staff to lift the wheelchair bound guy crowding surfing out of the pit and take him back stage to the "You better know who the fuck I am" at the end of the band intros Dave may as well have been the only person on stage the way he spoke.

I wonder how much medication he is on during some of those interviews. Hopefully he can stand up to the pressures and responsibilities of another tour cycle for the new album.

After the interview yesterday where he kept referring to JNR as "that gentleman" I wonder what he's on too :)

I still hope the drive that Dave has, where he reckons he still has some other bands to show up, is enough to keep him going. I'm sure he'll look after his voice, he'd be silly not too, but backing up the last few months on the road with another tour is asking a lot.

How do you like the new Muncipal Waste, Slammed?

Fast and furious but not hearing the catchy hits like Shrednecks, Breath Grease, or Slime and Punishment from their last album. Need to give it more listens! :kickass:

I like it but there does appear to be something missing. It might be the catchiness because no song really stands out from another they are just all riffing good times. There is some goofy lyrics/titles in there, like Paranormal Janitor, who wouldn't want a paranormal janitor? But even with a song like that the title is more memorable than the song. I think it definitely needs a few more listens to see if there is something else there.

New releases from Destruction and Kreator are growing with repeated spins. :kickass: Angelus Apatrida are teasing a possible fall North American Tour but are vague on the details thus far. Revocation announced a new album and a Boston area show 9n September.

AA would no doubt be worth seeing, like Evil Invaders what I have seen of them live they are very energetic shows.
I haven't listened to much Revocation, but I did see they were releasing something new soon and thought I might check it out.
I also see Plague Years dropped an EP today, haven't checked to see if it's new stuff but their last two albums have been pretty good.
Traitor from Germany have a new one out today too but I wont be able to get that locally I don't think.
I think Hatriot also release their album next week, but that latest single doesn't really excite me much, other than sounding Daddy Zetro struggling to growl the music seems a bit more core-ish than thrash, but I could be wrong.

The new Megadeth song is surprisingly good! Kiko has really stepped up the plate and sounds much better than before and even Dave's vocals have improved!

I haven't been here in a long time and I see there is still no Anthrax album on the way. :D
