Therion

Zach, the dvd set your thinking of is Celebrators of Becoming. Awesomeness on 4 disks.

Here's the best song (IMO) off of Theli, To Mega Therion

I'm downloading some of their albums, but the only one that's downloaded so far is Lemuria... wow! It's like a hybrid product of a threesome between Nightwish, Opeth, and Iron Maiden! There's so much going on in their songs! How do they play live? They have like twenty different vocalists!

Therion brings all of the studio musicians on tour with them, and they sound amazing live. Exactly like on CD, excellent instrumentals, I hope they come to Detroit soon

Did you see them in Detroit in fall of '05? Cool show. Lemuria & Sirius B are two of the most incredible albums I've ever heard. Gothic Kabbalah is interesting...I love the female soloist, and Mats was great as usual, but Snowy Shaw on vox doesn't appeal to me...should still give it some more listens however.

No, unfortunately i didn't. Tickets were sold out before I could get my hands on any, although I've watched Celebrators of Becoming and must say they might be the best band to see live.

Try Gothic Kabbalah. a lot of ppl said its not as good as their older albums, but i like this one the best for some reason. They're touring the USA :D if you like them go see them if u can! I'm going to catch them at the Galaxy Santa Ana show. sry i just got lazy and copy and pasted those dates from their myspace

But, as you said, at least you saw Celebrators Of Becoming ;)

Gothic Kabbalah (I'm going to pretend you didn't say that... stuff...) I may be (am) totally wrong, but, wasn't there a lot less metal guitar in it or something? Or was it that the guitar that was in it was uninspired/dull?

Actually Gothic Kabbalah is the most guitar-centric album they've ever made by far. It has the most technical riffs & the best & longest guitar solos of any of their albums. I believe Kristian Niemann (lead guitarist) had quite a bit of input on writing the entire album as well.

I know that purists may not agree with me, but I believe "Gothic Kabbalah" is their best album by far. It's their most progressive, best guitar work, best vocals because there's 4 leads, & even their best produced. They also used a lot of restraint on using choirs on that album. That album never gets boring to me & it's my album of the year so far personally. I also feel that Kristian Niemann has to be the most underrated guitarist out there.

I feel some of their older work, while good, can get quite relentless when a lot of the songs are based around choirs. It gets to sounding too familiar & doesn't have enough flair at times. With their Death Metal stuff I find it too mid paced for my liking most of the time.

I have everything Therion's ever done so I have a valid opionion. I even just got the 4 DVD/2 CD set "Celebrators of Becoming" in the mail recently. Its' quite intimidating & I have only been about to make it through a little into the 2nd DVD so far, but it's pretty cool.

Me other recomennded albums would be "Theli", "Secret of the Runes", & "Sirius B" in that order. Problems with "Theli" & "Secret of the Runes: is that they lose their footing somewhere during the album, which "Gothic Kaballah" does not do. I also quite like their "A'arab Zaraq - Lucid Dreaming" compilation & they played a good set on the "Live in Midgård" live album.

I believe I like "Vovin" & "Deggial" least of all their Symphonic works.
