Therion

Nightwish is playing the night after and I can't go to that either!

I'm getting to go see Nightwish :kickass: It's cool because they're playing a small venue as well so it'll be pretty personal. It's sad that very few around here listen to that kind of music. People around here only listen to the radio garbage, but I'm sure it seems like that everywhere. I don't even think the downtown venue they're playing at holds 1,000 people.

I went to see "Wolves in the Throne Room" & "Jesu" the other day & there were about 200 people there I would guess. It was fucked up because I was one of the only people there that went to see "WitTR" (that I talked to). I even got to meet the guys from "WitTR" minus the drummer.

The guys in Wolves live about 10 minutes from my house. Been over to their place to see the Nachtmystium / Skeletonwitch tour. They're an ok band, but kind of boring live to me. Of course, they play in Olympia at least once, maybe twice a month.

Is Florida like that in general? I only ask because you don't really see many symphonic/progressive metal bands travelling through Miami and other Floridian areas very often.

Dude, Florida sucks for good shows. As far as I know most people around lack any real musical identity. It's gotten pretty bad & most people I know who listened to cool stuff in High School listen to Rap now to "fit in"... Not that I have really talked to any of them in years, but last I seen them it was like that.

I was playing Stairway to Heaven on guitar for this guy I worked with the other day & he said it was pure garbage music. He had never even heard of the song before... He them asked me if I could play any Usher or R-Kelly... Yeh, it's that bad...

It just hit me, but I read awhile ago the the guys from "Wolves" lived in the woods in Washington & they were living on their own without power I would think...

Do you know anything about that?? I didn't want to ask the guys when I met them as that would be fucking rude, I would think.

In all honesty, they play it up a lot more than is the case. Yeah, they have a "commune" which is basically a house with people in it that like to farm. Let me put it this way: they live literally about 2 miles away from the mall, if that.

Olympia has a lot of trees pretty much anywhere you go, so living in the "woods" is pretty easy around here.

This isn't to discredit them at all, it's just fucking funny that they've got this big story then you show up at their house and it's like "oh... well... it's a house party with a bunch of hippies and scenesters".

I had no idea what they looked like & when I saw them I was kind of weirded out. The drummer & the other guitarist which are brothers looked pretty dirty, but they didn't look like the farming type. I was expecting dudes in Sunn O))) robes & shit, or something similar.

That's an interesting story man.

It also has a lot to do with the culture of the area. They live right next to Evergreen State College which is a big liberal arts school. It actually is pretty cool because the presence really helps keep the town from becoming too corporate (the people like their locally owned businesses, which is fucking awesome in my opinion). Still, there's always going to be the weird dudes who take it to the extreme. I dunno if the Wolves dudes went there for school, but they definitely share the mindset of some of the stranger folks. Not bad, but still pretty self congratulatory where there's no real justification.

Yeah, I hear you man. It's like that where I live too. Everyone listens to either rap, soft rock, or screamo shit. Terribly hard to find someone who likes decent music.

The fucked up thing is that there are really very few folks here that are into good music anymore & virtually about the only way to meet them is by going to the "ever-so-rare" good show around here then you'er still gambling on how the person got there... A lot of folks go see bands they've never even heard of or they get dragged to shows, ect. I don't go to many concerts, but I see that at ever show I go to.

I wish I could but I have a seminar for school that night. Nightwish is playing the night after and I can't go to that either!

Blasphemy!!! That really sucks you can't make Therion or Nightwish. Especially considering the recent developments regarding Therion and this allegedly being their last US tour. I'd fake a serious leg injury were I you. Same goes for Nightwish, but I'm sure they'll be back. Plus, it's sold out anyway. Go figure.:goggly:

Wha wha what!?

I really must see them before I die. I don't think they will be coming anywhere near here this tour. Why will this be their last US tour??

Yeah... Too tired to find it but maybe on their myspace it mentions how they have lost money on this tour and their last. Therefore, don't hold your breath for anything in the US for a while. I guess it's getting too costly to put on even the most minimal stage production they would be happy with. I'd recommend catching at your nearest city asap.

I can't dude, I live in Florida & the closest city they're playing at is probably a 15 hour drive. I can call in from work but I won't drive ridiculous distances for a couple of hour show. I liked their last album better than anything they've ever done too & I would love to see some of those songs live.
