Therion

They have lots of terrific music in their symphonic stuff: Theli, Vovin, Secret of the Runes, Lemuria and Sirius B are all brilliant. Although of course they have lots of disappointing stuff too, especially their last 2 albums, but they are certainly one of the very few Symphonic metal bands that don't suck.

Beyond Sanctorum is some of the best death metal has to offer.

That's their peak, but the albums before and after are good too.

  • Therion - Of Darkness
  • Therion - Beyond Sanctorum
  • Therion - Symphony Masses: Ho Drakon Ho Megas

I'll take these anyday! Like their new stuff too, but not as much.

Definitely fucking amazing.

It was always a solo-project except for the first few records. Sure some musicians were in the band a lon time but it was always a one-man show. That being said I was really bummed Mats Levén decided to quit the band. I love his vocals. And now Snowy Shaw also quit (even if he's on the new album). The guy who replaced Mats doesn't hold a candle to him unfortunately (at least not when I saw the band live a few years back).

Yeah Therion is is like the Megadeth of freak metal. I was bummed when Mats left, and the Nieman brothers who brought their particular style to the group that created a certain magic I enjoyed. Kris stopped the death vocals which sucks, and I don't like Snowy Shaw.
