Thermionik Amp Modeler Plugin by Kazrog LLC

A quick update - Recabinet 4 will be released on October 10. If you haven't taken advantage of the pre-order sale, it will be running until then. Thanks to all of you who've pre-ordered so far!

So...reading this thread, you're implying that this could potentially be a cure for Kemper GAS?

LOL, well that totally depends on what your needs are. Hardware is hardware and a lot of people don't like using laptops live. Sonically, I never felt happy with the picking attack or low end response on Kemper, but lots of people love them. It does have lots of pretty lights.

do you really think Thermionik rivals the Axe FX 2 or Kemper in sound quality? Do you personally use it for your material? Maybe I can stop being depressed about not being able to afford a Kemper!

@v1gnesh are you kidding me? I've got them both and can't wait for R4. While X50 is indeed a great representation of 5150 and supposedly devs will eventually add other amps and pedals, Recabinet still is going to have 4 amps on release which for me totally justifies the price.

i can´t decide.

sure, i love music with high-gain guitars, but almost exclusively use lower-gain amps myself. what´s the numbers on upcoming "non-metal" amps? i read you planned on including some, but that could mean 3 or 13
wouldn´t want to buy the VIP package when there´s one high gain amp after another stumbling in

Absolutely. I wouldn't have bothered entering the amp modeling space if I felt I couldn't improve upon what's already out there. I'll be using Thermionik for my music as soon as I have time to work on my own music again - sadly, one of the downsides of developing this is that I've run out of time to work on music

It's going to be a roughly equal number of high gain and non high gain amps. Keeping it balanced is a priority.

Kazrog, you're making some pretty bold claims here and as the old saying goes Talk Is Cheap. Looks like we'll all find out next week as to wether you can deliver on these claims or not!

It wasn't my intention to come here and make a bunch of bold claims. People asked questions and I responded as honestly as I could. This product almost never happened - I was totally unhappy with countless prototypes, and I was perfectly happy to walk away from it and find another direction to go in (other types of plugins, or other types of software entirely even.) After about a year, I had my first breakthrough, and there have been a series of smaller breakthroughs since then. I have to say, as someone who has never been happy with any amp modeler, that I'm finally happy - and I'm my own worst critic.

In the end, people are going to have their own opinions about what works best for them and their music/productions. As with any other product, some will love it, some won't, and that's fine with me. What sets Recabinet/Thermionik apart in terms of its approach is that it's single mindedly focused on amp and cabinet sounds. Rather than add in a bunch of features and FX that are redundant with the ones that come with your DAW, this plugin embraces the modular nature of the plugin format, and is designed to stand out as the most important part of the signal chain in your guitar sound. Every bit of development time was focused on making the core tones as good as possible.

Well, no doubt it'll be put through its paces around here upon release.

This forum is quite merciless, Revalver 4 seemed to be passed over pretty quickly.

Right... So the new X50 (2.3) is EUR 30. Recent Recabinet pre-orderers feel silly yet?

I almost shouldn't even dignify this with a response, but I will. TSE X50 is a great product and Onqel is a great guy. We are both longtime forum regulars and we are both passionate about guitar tone and audio DSP. It's us against the big guys.

I think our respective products are low priced enough that there's more than enough room for indie devs like us (and Ignite Amps, LePou, Kuassa, etc.) to exist. When you look at the direction of X50 and Recabinet, while they are quite similar on the surface, there are many differences in our respective approaches on a deeper level.

I don't view TSE or any other indie developer as competition - I view the big, established companies as our mutual competition, who we are all up against together. :kickass:

Kazrog,

I'm very excited about this product but I had a question. I used to own a Kemper but I ended up selling it because I just couldn't justify the amount of money I spent on it. Probably my favorite part of the Kemper other than the actual sound of the profiles was an adjustable parameter called "headphone space". It added a "roomy" effect when playing with headphones that was very nice and eliminated the harshness that is usually present when playing high gain tones through headphones. Would it be possible for you to add such an effect to your software? If not, could you recommend another plugin that might provide such an effect?
