Thermionik Amp Modeler Plugin by Kazrog LLC

As promised, here's a blind test using the same DI track of rhythm guitars (Ran Crusher 7 string equipped with EMG 707s, my writing/playing.) One of these files is a real Peavey 5150 II, recorded direct using a Countryman 85 DI box in between the amp and cabinet (so that both preamp and poweramp are being recorded), and one of them is Thermionik's emulation of the amp. Both are going into the same Recabinet preset:

PS - This algorithm is still being tweaked.
PPS - There will be more exotic amp models, but this one is a favorite around here (and a favorite of mine as well.)

I've listened to both about 10 times each, and honestly, I can barely tell the difference, nevermind determine which is real and which is software.

My guess it that A is real, B is sim. I like B more though, it has more precise pick attack or something.

Thinking a bit better it´s probably the opposite of what I said. Real amp it´s almost always a bit more loose than ampsims.

What's the Recab preset? Oversize 57 off axis?

I don't know if you're thinking about it but having one good bass amp in there would be pretty good. A good version of a SVT would probably be warmly welcomed for all the people tired of using Amplitube's version.

Where Thermionik definitely isn't trying to compete is in the "all things to all people" category, for example there won't be any effects, it's assumed you already have more than enough effects in your DAW plugins menu, and there's no way in hell I'm going to try to equal or beat Eventide or SoundToys in the FX category.

I fully agree with that stance, you'll only benefit your product from such specialization.

I would love something especially designed for bass distortion:
onquel already did a sansamp bass driver but
what about sansamp psa (for non pro tool users) or VT bass
Darkglass bk-3/ bk-7

etc...

There will be bass amps too. The goal is to have comprehensive amp modeling that can cover all stylistic bases for guitar and bass. With the sole focus on amps and cabs, without any frills, that allows a lot of time to spend perfecting each amp model.

First I thought A was the real amp, but with the chords I thought it was B.

In any case, they are close. There is a bit of a difference in response and I think a little bit in the mids, but the more I listen to it the less I can tell...

The difference is surprisingly subtle, but it is there.
I think:
A = Real
B = Plugin

A just sounds more like tube saturation to me, its slightly smoother. That being said, they're closer than a lot of other comparison's that I've heard before.

Good to hear that. Are the poweramps going to be modeled in bass amps as well?

B is a bit tighter A is a bit more dynamic so i would guess that that is the real amp. Not big difference at all, great work!

Edit: I also think despite which one is which that B would probably be easier to get into a mix.
