This forum is in desperate need of moderation

Sorry to have to post this, but I believe it's necessary:

It seems that, a month or two ago, this forum was enjoying a good period of most intelligent, productive discussion. It has now begun to degrade again. The 'elite' posters are still contributing intelligent discussion, but the forum is beginning to be overrun by illiterates, moronic trolls, and blatant spam from street teamers and advertisers.

Due to this, I think it's about time to forum got itself a moderator. How one should be elected, and how heavily they should moderate is another matter, but I think most would agree that it is a necessary action if we want to see the forum return to the (relative) haven it was a while back. I believe Deron browses all the forums, so hopefully he'll see this and post, otherwise I'll send him a PM directing him to the thread. Any input/opinions are welcome.

i wholehartedly agree about the "illiterates, moronic trolls, and blatant spam from street teamers and advertisers", but imo what makes this for the most part a real shitty forum is the 'elite' posters who constantly come up with "witty" ways to call any band they see mentioned "gay"

But, now we have Uranium to deal with. The spam and trolling is getting old.

Although there's still a decent presence of regular idiot posters, it's not so much that that bothers me, but the infrequent/newbie posters who are almost uniformly illiterate. I don't want to come off like a grammar Nazi, but if general poor grammar and spelling, in addition to usage of lazy internet acronyms (INCREDIBLY annoying) are seen to be accepted, they will spread.

I certainly miss those days when we had plenty of interesting and intelligent discussions. I rarely post these days because of this.

There are plenty of other sites and forums to visit if you don't like this one. I've noticed most forums are like this though, but when rules and shit are actually implemented, the admins get accused of being "nazis" and people slowly start to migrate away from your forum. It sadly happened at mine, because I didnt want a forum full of pointless, off the wall shit. General Discussion is just that, but it shouldn't be found to contain tons and tons of stupid, senseless crap. People were posting bondage porn pictures and quoting Hitler before I put some rules up and started moderating. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy both of those in moderation sometimes, but nobody wants to visit a site of complete chaos.

I don't really have a problem with people migrating away if all they want to do is post useless shit anyway. Of course, a mod going overboard could be a worry, especially here, where a large number of the more intelligent posters are fairly elitist. All that's really needed, though, in my opinion, is someone who will control problems such as many posters' inability to type in a coherent manner, blatant trolling (the OMG BLACK METAL SUX!!! crew, of which a new one seems to turn up at least once a month), and blatant advertising/street teaming, as well as locking threads which have ceased to be constructive and have degenerated into total flame fests thanks to the statements of a few idiots (hi AWMM).
