I hope I'm not right, but I'm almost sure.
Damnation will be the end.

reasons:

1st LP, 1st song, 1st line: "seven milestones..."
(damnation is the 7th LP)

Damnation, last song title: "Ending Credits"

Deliverance/Damnation recording sessions diary, the very last sentence:
"And one thing is for sure…we’ll never do a thing like this again. * * *"
(what are these stars?)

Damn...it would be so sad, but so perfect...damn!

Its quite possible. This subject has crossed my mind aswell. Deliverance and Damnation are the perfect way to end Opeth, and I'm certain that the band looks at it from this perpective also, it just makes sense, but there going to keep a low profile about it. Sure there is also a chance that they will release one last record but I feel its unlikely. I guess time will tell of course, lets just hope they give us one last record.

when he said they'll never do anything like that again he meant that they'll never make 2 albums at the same time, and plus they've said the conditions during the recording of the albums were awful.
Obviously I don't know when they'll break up, but it's very likely you're reading too much into things.

First off, I doubt Opeth had planned to do exactly 7 albums when they wrote In The Mist all those years ago. Secondly, Ending Credits is the second last song on the album, right? Anyway, a moot point. And as someone mentioned earlier, they were referring to never doing a gruelling recording session doing 2 albums worth of material.

However, I remember some line from an interview with mikael DID hint at a break up more directly, cant remember which interview though.

Good points, that sucks though.

They would go out as legendary though....

metalathiest: yes that is an alex grey work.
Who else does art like him?

Yes, (here comes a spoiler, uh oh!) Weakness is the hidden, and final track.

Ok, but as you sad, it's hidden and be honest,
it's really no title opeth would normally give a song.

I just can repeat what I said before,
would be sad, would be perfect,
i mean they started heavy with orchid and ended up soft with damnation

and how does the "seven milestones"-line fit to the others of the song?

sorry, i forgot!!
WHAT'S NORMAL ABOUT OPETH ??
shame on me...

well I doubt that too...but I could be true. Roger Waters once got an idea(while stoned) to form a band and wrote down the titles to every album the band was going to make thus the last album would be called "The Final Cut"(When this album was done Roger Waters quit, but the other members didn't want stop when they've reached that far). This band was named Pink Floyd.

Martin Mendez wrote in his biography:
Worst event in career: The Deliverance and Damnation recording

I think this is the reason why they will never do a thing like this again. Prolly it was a very hard time or something, I mean come on recording 2 albums at the same time is very difficult I think.

But I sure hope you are not right.
/me wants more Damnation like material
