Well, I braved the nightmare drive up from San Diego...4 hours to go 130 freaking miles - but it was worth it. I was a little disappointed that the bands seemed to have short sets, but overall I'd say 4 pretty good bands for $30 makes for a nice holiday! It's not very often I'll admit that Nevermore was not the best band on the bill, but having never seen
Dimmu, I was really impressed. Not too big on all the over-the-top makeup and satanic imagery etc, but the show was quite a spectacle...great stage presence, heavy sound and incredible clean vocals by the bass player.
Jeff was pretty solid for Nevermore, but the sound was not nearly as crisp as it was for Dimmu, and Warrel seemed to be having a tough time on the vocals last night. He seemed to be backing off the mic quite a bit, and you could only hear bits and pieces of the singing throughout - and then his mic died on the last song...maybe a problem there? Anyway, seems they only played 8 songs - mainly the heaviest ones like Riverdragon, Engines of Hate etc - I think all the bands were worn out from partying all day and night in Hollywood.

Warrel called Jeff "Adrian Vandenburg" and made some jokes about everybody spending the day listening to metal instead of being with our "dysfunctional families" !

Biggest highlight?

Finally got that long-sought Nevermore workshirt, and only $35!!!!!

buzz the show definetaly kicked ass. hypocrisy started the night off strong. i didnt catch the name of their new song they played. but it kicked mucho ass. bodom was fucking off the hook. started a nice lil mosh. bodom chants all around. crowd loved them. the highlight for me though was fucking nevermore. ahhhh they were off the hook bro. i sang along to every song. from narcosynthesis to enemies and everything in between. river dragon and i voyager were the 2 best in my opinion. warrel said some funny shit inbetween songs. like you mentioned. "why are we having fun? cus were not with are fucked up families" or something like that. it was also cool that he grabbed that chick and put her on stage. anyways nevermore fucking rocked as did the crowd. but shit man $7.50 for water downed drinks that didnt do shit for me. im never buying booze at a concert again. ill drink b4 i show up ahaha \m/. i seen the nevermore workshirt. not my style i got the hypocrisy long sleeve and a eor short sleeve. when dimmu came on i stayed for one song and then left. they fucking blow. no offense. nice lil sound effects for the entrance. but their music makes me go :erk: . glad you had fun. my necks from swollen ahahah

pretty sure that was eraser. should be on the new album next year. i went for hypocrisy and only hypocrisy. i was FLOORED to find out they were the opening band!!!!???? as i walked through the door to find them 2/3s done with their set. i had just got there and (for me) the show was over. i think i wouldve enjoyed nevermore and bodom more if i had gotten to see hypocrisy properly (as the headliner with a fulllength set!).
dimmu was redeeming though, theyre solid and always put on a good show.

I thought the show was good, I don't think Nevermore got
a proper soundcheck or something because I agree the mix was not the best.
You couldn't always hear Warrel. I think his mic was fucked up and finally it gave out, but when he sang through Jeff's mic I could hear him.
I could hear Van pretty good. I agree the sets are too short, but I guess
that;s what happens when you have 4 bands on a bill.
Plus, both nights the House of Blues had the shows start so damn early....
what;s up with that? Overall it was fun and it was much better than
listening to the family argue and watch my teams lose in football :loco:
