Well, I braved the nightmare drive up from San Diego...4 hours to go 130 freaking miles - but it was worth it. I was a little disappointed that the bands seemed to have short sets, but overall I'd say 4 pretty good bands for $30 makes for a nice holiday! It's not very often I'll admit that Nevermore was not the best band on the bill, but having never seen
Dimmu, I was really impressed. Not too big on all the over-the-top makeup and satanic imagery etc, but the show was quite a spectacle...great stage presence, heavy sound and incredible clean vocals by the bass player.
Jeff was pretty solid for Nevermore, but the sound was not nearly as crisp as it was for Dimmu, and Warrel seemed to be having a tough time on the vocals last night. He seemed to be backing off the mic quite a bit, and you could only hear bits and pieces of the singing throughout - and then his mic died on the last song...maybe a problem there? Anyway, seems they only played 8 songs - mainly the heaviest ones like Riverdragon, Engines of Hate etc - I think all the bands were worn out from partying all day and night in Hollywood.
Warrel called Jeff "Adrian Vandenburg" and made some jokes about everybody spending the day listening to metal instead of being with our "dysfunctional families" !
Biggest highlight?
Finally got that long-sought Nevermore workshirt, and only $35!!!!!
