To release a vinyl or not...

I've thought that I might release October Falls - Marras on vinyl myself, but it's damn expensive. Making 100 copies costs basically the same as 500 copies.

find a label... sending 100 vinyls to people myself sure isn't anything i would like to deal with, but that's me

No shit, I hate sending stuff, it takes a lot of time. And I should release at least 500 copies, no use to release 100, when you can basically get 500 with the same amount of money.

Finding a label for vinyl-only release is VERY hard, well, not if you play in some well known band, but otherwise.

I'd have to personally encourage you to do it because I love vinyl and I love your music, so it'd be an obvious purchase. But realistically, would it be possible for you to work out some distribution on your own to avoid the problem Erik pointed out?

depends where you are and the style of music you play
I've heard that the crust core scene in europe is hard to sell cds to but they lap up the vinyl
I think if youre playing music thats mostly enjoyed by obsessive music lovers (older folk) and collectors you could do ok

I'd love to do some vinyl for scald but i know it would be really hard to make the money back
maybe if we sold 2-3000 copies of a cd we could sell 300 on vinyl
if you see what I'm getting at.

you can hook up with distros who'll maybe take 10 copies of you
but the problems these days is that label distros generally don't pay money (some will do sale or return) they trade for thier own product, so you end up with a bunch of other stuff to sell.

good luck if you go for it

Yeah, I know distros mostly only do trades, altough I have some places that have dealed with cash, when I've sold my copies of the OF cd-releases to them. I know it's not impossible to sell 500 copies of the LP as the first 10" was released in 400 copies and is basically sold out from the label, only few copies in stock, but it need a lot of work.

And I'm a lazy bastard...

actually I'd quite like one of your cds (my turntable is broken)
went to your site to see what sort of material you play and was very into the 3 mp3's I nabbed, + given your previous sales I'd say get your finger out and get some vinyl done

you may regret it if you don't

how much is a 500 pressingthese days?
I'm sure the price hasn't dropped like cd pressing

I haven't received an answer for my price quote yet, but a similar order costed about 1500 euros.

Yeah, the quote came and with my requests and shipping the total was about 1500 euros + some taxes when the vinyls arrive.

I'm seriously thinking about it as I have the money and right now have no use for them anyway, they're just waiting for my "bying a house project".
