Top 10 all-time favourite Metal albums

Some good riffs but the production sounds awkward to me. Sounds very weak. (Could just be the mix.)

Also I'm real partial to the vocal sound on the debut and the raw edge the guitar tone has. I guess people that don't care all that much about production in the context of the bigger picture would think I'm being picky.

 
Pleasures is a bit too slick and I know the toms have an infamous reputation sound-wise, but I think Zetro gets too much shit. He's not Baloff, but he still got a bit of menace. Also, have you heard the demo versions of the few songs with Baloff? The demo production is maybe a little better fitting, although the vocals end up sounding a lot like Zetro's anyways.

Maybe I'd replace By Inheritance with Eternal Devastation. Or Rage for Order. Possibly Extravasation. Maybe. Otherwise, this is objectively the greatest top 10 of metal albums ever composed.

Very few changes needed. I'd remove Dawnbringer and add more possibly. Slowly We Rot, Images and Words, By Inheritance. Probably replace Unquestionable Presence with Piece of Time. Otherwise solid list.

It's basically the same. Like I said two years ago, it's basically impossible. If I break it down, there are six locks:

Darkthrone- Transilvanian Hunger
Deathspell Omega- Paracletus
Judas Priest- Sad Wings of Destiny
Agalloch- The Mantle

Then there's about ten more albums that I more or less equally love. Which ones make the list is a matter of mood.

The only "new" discoveries that I would put at this absolute top tier from the last two years are:

At the Gates- The Red in the Sky is Ours-- I had heard this years ago, but never fully appreciated it until more recently. It is phenomenal from start to finish and communicates something very obscure but profound.

Blind Guardian- Imaginations From the Other Side-- I only got into power metal in the last year and a half, and this is absolutely the best power metal album I've heard. Just epic track after epic track.

Images and Words comes close too...

The only thing I don't get from my old list is why I picked Turn Loose the Swans over Angel and the Dark River, as I've preferred the later for most of my life.

Long story short, this is how I turned a top 10 into a top 20.
