i think i've decided that Weakling is the only "new" black metal thing i actually give much of a fuck about. Xasthur is cool, and then... there's not alot else.
I find Xasthur to be quite boring. They're better viewed as ambient than black metal.

is deathspell omega anygood?
Awesome, awesome band. Generally well produced, and not all that raw compared to their French contemporaries. Check out Inquisitors of Satan for Darkthrone type black metal, or Si Monumentum Requires, Circumspice for something more ambitious.

my favorites, in no order:

Graveland - Following the Voice of Blood
Fullmoon - United Aryan Evil
Fleurety - Min Tid Skal Komme
Summoning - Minas Morgul
Aeternus - Beyond the Wandering Moon
Enslaved - Vikingligr Veldi
Helheim - Av Norron Aett

and some others finding regular play:

Samael - Ceremony of Opposites
Graveland - Thousand Swords
Sort Vokter - Folkloric Necro Metal
Abigor - Verwustung
Belenos - Errances Onirique

and I must say, I do not understand all this love for Deathspell Omega. While Kenose and Si Monumentum are adequately played, they are hardly close to touching the levels of the classics.

DsO lack conviction and emotion, something the true classics had plenty of.
