So far I've got (in NO order whatsoever):

Moonsorrow - Kivenkantaja
Extol - Synergy
Forest Stream - Tears of Mortal Solitude (*we have this listed as 1990 - nobody told me!!*)
Negura Bunget - 'N Crugu Bradului
Arch Enemy - Anthems of Rebellion
Helheim - Yersinia Pestis
Vital Remains - Dechristianize
Virgin Black - Elegant...and Dying
Cradle of Filth - Damnation and a Day
Enslaved - Below the Lights
Ephel Duath - The Painters Pallette

I've yet to hear: Omnium Gatherum, Skyfire, Solefald, but I hear great things about them.

Of course there are more releases yet to come, but I've just listed those that I've heard so far.

:Spin:

You must get Omnium Gatherum man, it's awesome! And I still need Solefald and Vital Remains.

1. King Crimson - Power to Believe
2. Antimatter - Lights Out
3. Omnium Gatherum - Spirits and August Light
4. Manes - Vilosophe
5. Marilyn Manson - Golden Age of Grotesque
6. Type O NEgative - Life is Killing Me
7. Ephel Duath - Painter's Palette
8. Opeth - Damnation
9. Tomahawk - Mit Gas
10. Virgin Black - Elgant... And Dying

Although new Morbid Angel, A Perfect Circle, Primus, Ulver, and Nuclear Rabbit releases are still forthcoming, so this list will more than likely change.

I hope it will be! I kept getting out bid on it on eBay so I'm resorting to The End, ye ol faithful.

Although new Morbid Angel, A Perfect Circle....

They've been playing previews of it on the radio, and it's so good being reminded how fucking excellent Maynard James Keenan is. Definitely one of the best vocalists in the world. I would consider him for my all-time dream team line up for sure.

Only DragonForce, BLAZE and Helloween rank worthy to be put on a list out of what I've heard so far, though I'm eagerly awaiting new PowerQuest and Iron Maiden :)

Yeah he's my favorite vocalist of all time, the guy is just amazing. I've heard the new song (Weak and Powerless I think...?) and I dig it. Awesome bass, I don't know who plays on the album though, as Paz recently left and Twiggy replaced her, but Billy Howerdale played bass on the first one anyhow.

That OG is up there with Heartwork and Hypocrisy's best, it is just amazing. The vocals aren't the best, but not bad. Would do better if he did some clean vocals on a few tracks. :p

the new double live edguy did just what I thought it would do, vault straight to the top of my 2003 list. granted I've only had it for a day, but the digibook packaging is first rate (discounting that pain in the ass tendency for the sleeves to begin splitting immediately), the multimedia section is great, and for a live recording, the sound is sparklingly clear.

(to compare a band like this who enjoys full financial support from their label to a band like nevermore who is getting completely screwed just points out which companies have their heads up their asses)

no lie, if you have any tendency to listen to PM at all, this one belongs in your collection. the dual leads are so maiden crossed with lizzy, aaargh this is just a good fun couple of cds.

Well, no doubt, since Edguy are probably in the top three PM bands on the planet, although their flavor of PM would appeal to fans of Bruce Dickinson, Savatage, and Iron Maiden (all of which are not strictly PM).

I don't actually include live albums in my top 10 lists, but I do agree that Burning Down the Opera is phenomenal. Worth every penny.

not in order:

Aborted - Goremageddon
Enslaved - Below The Lights
Marduk - World Funeral
Vital Remains - Dechristianize
Exhumed - Anatomy Is Destiny
Blood Red Throne - Affiliated With Suffering
Nightingale - Alive Again
God Dethroned - Into The Lungs Of Hell
Soul Reaper - Life Erazer
Dying Fetus - Stop At Nothing

I'm sure I'm forgetting something. I think it's been a very good year so far. Just got the new Morbid Angel and Grimfist. Both will probably be on this list too, but I only listened to them once so far. New Edge of Sanity will surely be on this list too.
Album of the year of those I have listed is close between Vital Remains, Enslaved, and Aborted.

oooh yeah - another good catch. Nordland II is very good indeed. I prefer it over Nordland I.

No offence man, but have you got Nightingale in that list because it's specifically a Dan Swano project? I'm just trying to figure out the odd one out in that lovely bunch.

Not at all. I've always been a big fan of Nightingale. I guess I throw in in here because I keep it within the context of metal. And even though Nightingale is very different from the others, it's something other metal fans know about. I listen to alot of mellow stuff, but I usually doubt that anyone 'round here wants to hear me gush about the new Smog, Bonnie Prince Billy, Richard Buckner, Songs:Ohia, or Cat Power... :)

Would you recommend it to a dude who has never listened to Edguy before? I used live albums as my introduction to Black Sabbath and Slayer back in the day, going on what I'd heard through the grapevine - "live albums are always better that studio albums" I personally wouldn't recommend that method to peeps...

I definitely would. in essence, this is a "greatest hits" package, summing up their career to this point. plus the video is a clip of the band at last year's prog power with Tobi Sammet incorporating a "shit piss fuck" chant with the fans within the middle of "Headless Game.":loco:

It's probably safe to say that as different as our prime musical tastes can be, if Jay Keeley and both agree on the ability of a band, it's gotta be good:wave:

on the other hand if Nad or Phyre ever agree with me it may be time for the apocalypse:Spin::hotjump::yell:

No! Live albums are not always better, I agree.....

...but Ayeka - I'm gonna slap you! You've never heard Edguy before? Go tell Symphony all about that on the Power Quest forum!! He and I can talk about Edguy for hours. You know that Edguy have replaced Hammerfall on the Bloodstock roster right? I would be creaming my pants over that since I HATE Hammerfall and I LOVE Edguy. They are in a class of their own.

If you like Savatage, Bruce Dickinson, Queensryche, Maiden, and a little Helloween, you are going to dig these guys. Nice & friendly chaps too. :)

If I was you, I would end at the live album. Live albums are generally better once you've already heard the studio albums. In this order, get:

1 - Mandrake
2 - Theater of Salvation
3 - Savage Poetry (the 2000 version)
4 - Vain Glory Opera
5 - Kingdom of Madness (good, but production is weak)

And please don't tell me that you've never heard AVANTASIA? If not, get the first one (very important since it's heaps better than the second), and get ready to wet yourself. Tobias Sammet is a glorious songwriter and phenomenal frontman. That album features a whole bunch of talented folks.

Seriously though, Edguy are one of the greatest bands in existence IMO.

Both of you need to stop hesitating regarding the latest Solefald album...
Man, insert about 5,000 CDs into that sentence and it's still true. :p Solefald will be part of my next purchase though.
