Let people choose what they want. Accept it and shut the fuck up.

I gotta say...everyone listing SYL's Alien album amonst top 5 metal albums OF ALL TIME need to pull their head out of hteir arse and really think about what they're saying. Alien is extremely forgettable.

Well, clearly not to everyone who picked it :Smug:

Burzum - Hvis Lyset Tar Oss
Opeth - Morningrise
Bathory - Hammerheart
Immortal - At the Heart of Winter
Metallica - ...And Justice For All

These came close:
Iron Maiden - Somwhere In Time
Black Sabbath - Master of Reality
Dying Fetus - Destroy The Opposition

And plenty more, but I should probably stop listing them.

Opeth - orchid - the start of something special
Necrophagist - Epitaph - fucking technical
Cryptopsy - NSV - brutal as fuck
Death - Sound of Perseverence - just awesomeness
Fuck...I'm Dead - Engineering the dead - fucking grind!

Top albums for me change all the time anyway.

The whole question is a bit wierd because you really need to aggregate together a lot of different peoples opinions to say anything significant. But then if you go for democracy, large herds of people vote for Robbie Williams or whatever the other CD was that they bought in the last year.

Two albums jump out as classics from a lot of posters - Reign in Blood and Master of Puppets.

I love SYL - Alien but I would never make out that it was a classic album. That's almost as crass as nominating Robbie.

This could all change five minutes from now. But here's a rough top five:

1. In Flames - Whoracle
2. The Crown - Crowned in Terror
3. At the Gates - Terminal Spirit Disease
4. Opeth - My Arms, Your Hearse
5. Dark Tranquillity - The Mind's I

Other albums that aren't quite as "metal" that would be near the top of this list are:

Alice in Chains - Dirt
Soundgarden - Superunknown
Faith No More - Angel Dust
Deadboy and the Elephantmen - If This is Hell, Then I'm Lucky
Corrosion of Conformity - Deliverance

*Shit, I forgot about Amorphis - Elegy. That could easily replace any albums I had put in the top five.

Hmmm my top 5 metal albums.....hard to say as I recently don't listen to metal that much........ok here they are:

Opeth - Still Life
Morbid Angel - Gateways to Annihilation
Emperor - IX Equilibrium
Borknagar - The archaic Course
Disillusion - Back to Times of Splendor

Opeth - MAYH
Carcass - Symphonies of Sickness
Entombed - Clandestine
Emperor - Anthems
Novembre - Dreams d'Azur

at the gates- slaughter of the soul (they collected 6 years of material to this masterpiece)
opeth- still life (obviously)
opeth- blackwater park (also)
pain of salvation- be (yes it is partly metal)
theory in practise- colonizing the sun (incredible progressive DM band)
type o negative- life is killing me (awesome stuff)
mokoma- kuoleman laulukunnaat (probably the best thrash album ever made)

hey... this is 7 albums... shite
