TSE X50 Beta

Quick mix (ultra-sloppy playing, strings older than your deceased grandma, shitty bass programming (Trilian VSTi), shitty drums programming (Superior 2), sloppy premastering, etc) using virtually the same (low cut is slightly different) PI-FREE settings for both TSE X30 et TSE X50 versions :

-TSE X30 (engl e530 preamp VST ampsim (free !!!)) + PI-FREE (engl 6L6 poweramp + marshall 412 v30 cab miked (close but a bit off centre) with sm57 + low cut sim (free !!!)), dualtracked (1 guitar (similar guitars but different tonal balance) hard-panned on each side, ampsim EQ and gain are slightly different from one side to another too), no post-EQ (you can tell :) ) :

-TSE X50 (Peavey 5150 II preampVST ampsim (free !!!)) + PI-FREE (engl 6L6 poweramp + marshall 412 v30 cab miked (close but a bit off centre) with sm57 + low cut sim (free !!!)), dualtracked (1 guitar (similar guitars but different tonal balance) hard-panned on each side, ampsim EQ and gain are slightly different from one side to another too), no post-EQ (you can tell :) ) :

While playing guitar alone (no backing track), the TSEX50 sounds better to me, but once in a mix the TSEX30 sounded more mix-ready (even if the tone sounds a bit nasty), but i guess that has to do with the fact that my mix template was tailored for a Engl-based guitar tone, and the X50 needs some post-EQ (to clean those low-mids among others).

what were your settings on tse x50 and tse x30?
thanks

I tried with a clean boost plugin (TSE 808) in front of it and it sounded way better in comparison (i might post samples), but here are the settings anyway :

TSE X30 (o'clock for knobs): hi gain mode, contour off, trafo off, input @noon, output @9h00 :

-left guitar (schecter hellraiser C1-FR w. EMG 81) : drive @10h45, bass @02h15, LoMids @02h30, HiMids @11h, Treble @noon
-right guitar (schecter hellraiser Blackflame Ltd w. EMG 81TW (boomier / looser / muddier-sounding guitar compared to my hellraiser C1-FR, and less gain too)) : drive @12h30, bass @12h15, LoMids @12h45, HiMids @12h45, Treble @01h15

TSE X50 (NOT o'clock for knobs): red channel, input @5, output @2,5, post-gain @2, Poweramp OFF, Hifi OFF, Red Ch. Mod on :

-left guitar (schecter hellraiser C1-FR w. EMG 81) : pre-gain @5, low @4,25, Mid @4,25, High @6,50
-right guitar (schecter hellraiser Blackflame Ltd w. EMG 81TW (boomier / looser / muddier-sounding guitar compared to my hellraiser C1-FR, and less gain too)) : pre-gain @5,75, low @2,75, Mid @5, High @8,5

NB : take the gain values with a grain of salt, since it seems the "DI" guitar signal level affects this

Worldwide weapon. You want to have your source signal DI hitting no higher than 0 DBvu which is no higher than -6 Dbfs in guitar signal which is -18 RMS. Do yourself a favor and buy Satson Buss Channel or any other vst like it i.e. FreeG - Sonalksis. Basically when you are recording the DI, play a few riffs and adjust so that it is not hitting over 0 dbVU use the trim nob. You don't want the DI too hot or too low. I personally use satson buss channel on basically every track.

Clip A
Clip B

2010 and 2012 version of the plugin.. the new one sounds fuller, but a little muffled I think..
I'm determined to finish that plug now :p

Wow the pedal and amp skins look incredible. Clip B is my fav :)

Looking forward to the finished amp. The x50 beta is one of my absolute favs!

lite = light (as in the opposite of heavy)

in this case it means lower quality for less CPU load

Yeah that was the thought in theory, but in practice it means that all the extra functions in TSE808 and X50 (DIY window etc) is removed for simplicity. I've remodeled the TSE808 and will be released after I've optimized it a bit more.
The new algorithms in X50 leaves the cpu in the beta 3 area, but the new dynamic response of the amp is a whole different story though. The X50 bias function is removed in the final version, you will still be able disable poweramp and change between 6L6/EL34 tubes.
If I make versions with all those extra functions in the future they will not be freeware, too much work/timeconsuming to make it worth it..

ok my bad, might have misread the last posts, i thought the lite thing was a low quality mode or something

What does making an ampsim timeconsuming... (I have simply no idea - i never wrote a plugin) :)

short version: making it sound decent without overloading the cpu :p

long version: analysis, making a model for the chain(in the schematic) you are about to model, making that model able to "speak" with other models if necessary, putting everything together to make an amp, testing and comparison to see if there are any mistakes to be taken care of, more testing.. and it doesn't help that it's all done in C++ and it takes time debugging:p

I see! :)

What wrong with C++?

I guess C++ offers you to make better optimized software, but it doesn't prevent you to classical C/C++ buffer overflow/pointers errors ... HARD TO FIND !!!!

so what are your suggestion for best cab sim/ impulses to use with this? is there something with not-static IR out there? preferably free?

Damn those new skins look sweet, though the x50 skin could be a bit smaller in scale and have some empty space trimmed. Hearing that you're actually considering going commercial with your plugs is just... oh, 's sublime.:worship:

Nothing free yet that isn't static except some nebula programs for the free version that aren't particularly good. The new Recabinet sounds very interesting though (speaker dynamics) and there's always nebula but that's gonna cost you a lot more than Recabinet.
