Unblack Metal

...yeah, and that's the point. If the majority of people agree that black metal is defined by certain ideologies, as well as musical style, then there exists a need to categorize music which is musically similar, but ideologically dissimilar (up to and including diametrically opposed). It exists, and you can cry and whine all day but that doesn't change the fact that it exists. It is "real" unblack metal. If you think that term is "offensive" to trve black metal, WHO CARES! Do you not think the content of black metal is sometimes offensive to many people? You don't care about that, but you cry when Christians play similar music but have lyrics that offend a small group of "evil" fans and musicians?

Now then if you fall into the above category (BM = music + ideology) I think you start to run into trouble with bands that fall between the two opposing ideologies...but that another story (or not).

Hey, I'm a black metaller but I'm atheist, I don't give a fuck about any religion and listen to Black Metal because it causes to me a sort of ecstasy. Are you happy now?

I respect everyone (excepts those who irritate me, like you). Are you happy?

What I said in that message was my NEUTRAL and IMPARTIAL opinion. Are you satisfied?

Most (Un)Black Metal these days seems to be of very poor quality, which can probably be credited to trying to get music on Myspace too quickly. As far as Chrsitian BM goes, Antestor Crimson Moonlight, Lo-Ruhamah, Drottnar, etc. are the best way to go. Those are some of the few unblack bands that can compare with secular bands.

the whole point of classifying music into genres and sub-generes is to identify bands that sound simmilar. lyrics never had anything to do w/ it. did all NWOBHM bands have the same message, or all thrash bands, or death bands, or w/e. no, they didnt, and were still classifyed by sound.

Lengsel and Antestor are the only two christcore bands I kinda like.

Of all the gay belittling terms given to bands, that sure is a whopper. :erk: Almost as bad as Selloutallica.

I think we can all agree that most Christian music has poor musicianship (for the most part) because their focus is mainly on the message. That's why anyone even gives a shit that they're Christian.

Besides, what about bands like Mortification? Their album Scrolls of the Megilloth sounds identical to a lot of secular death/grind bands. I'm sure many would not even notice the difference.

This fucking idiot has still to reply me. I WANT HIM TO REPLY ME, FUCK!

Yeah, but we metalheads need to put up a red flag when the word of God starts penetrating our ranks so that we can keep track of who's getting fed to the lions later.

I think art in any way depends on the eye of the beholder. The aesthetics of the christians of the past was partly very "black" too. Take the church in sedlec in czech for example:

Sedlec-Knochenkirche.jpg

Its made of the skeletons of over 40.000 humans. When you consider this, then black metal can also be seen as an art which fits to the christian belief.

Well, for one I have been gone for a week.

Besides that, I thought about replying and I am not sure what to say. I am not sure exactly what your post means, and I am not sure how to respond.

I personally have always thought the term unblack was dumb (aside from being used as an album title, which was fine). But as I have spent time here reading arguments from some people who are so adamant that black metal is defined by more than musical aesthetic, I have been willing to bend my own views and just allow the opposing viewpoints to coexist with some level of validity. So out of respect for those people, and in a effort to discuss bands with a black metal musical aesthetic, but with a message diametrically opposed to it, I started this thread.

What's the problem?

Maybe because I mentioned that I don't care if some people may be offended at "unblack" metal. But that is a bit ironic that those so often interested in offending would be so offended. So your music is about going against the accepted norms? Well unblack takes that a step further and possibly offends you

too bad.

I listen to both "secular" and "christian" black metal. I listen to both of them purely for the music itself. No, I don't ignore the lyrics, I am just stating that I will listen to whatever regardless of the lyrical message. I am not a christian, though I used to be. I still enjoy christian black metal. And yes, I called it black metal and not "unblack". Think about it. Why do people put black metal in a catagory of its own? The sound. If one was to hear a song (not knowing who the artist was) and in that song contained shrieking, blastbeats, etc. (everything that makes up the formula of black metal) then that person would assume that artist to be a black metal artist. My point is, black metal in all reality is based first upon the sound. Then perhaps the lyrical content. With all this being said, satanism/occultism was the basis of black metal lyrics and image.

No, the problem is that you offended an atheist black metaller, who loves Black Metal, but doesn't accept the simple existence of the Unblack Metal contradiction. And, personally, I AM NOT interested in offending. Anyone.

The synthesis is: your message has been read by the wrongest person on earth, and the reaction was this :)

Anyway, I don't look down on you, as I don't scorn anyone, but it would be better if we didn't talk each other any more.

You are not interested in offending anyone, and you don't look down on me, but you call me a "fucking idiot"?

I guess I don't get it. I didn't invent Christians playing black metal, it just exists. I am even going a step further to use a different term to separate it from "true" black metal.

As far as the offending thing, you must admit that the lyrics and even the music of black metal, and many other styles of metal, will offend many many people. Many black metal lyrics (not all) have no other goal in mind but to oppose the belief system of Christians. People in the world have the freedom to do many things that offend others. The people on this board go overboard to offend each other. Also, some Christians play "black metal" music. It takes a bit of thick skin (not being easily offended) to survive in this world, and even more in the world of metal.

As for you and I, I don't see why there has to be a problem between us. This is just a message board, and I also have no interest in personally offending anyone either. It's about the metal!

I offended you because I felt offended by you.

As far as the offending thing is concerned, the fact is that THEY, THOSE PEOPLE write those lyrics, not I! I don't even have a Black Metal band, now. And I never wrote lyrics, I don't have a bent for this (except things like "I will impale you at midnight on july 6th" and other craps like this... really good, as you can see).

As for you and I, there is no problem. Simply, I have felt offended by you, I've reacted and now we've sorted things out.

PS: and, reading your last messages, I don't consider you at all an idiot!

Hails :headbang:

So I got this CD by this band Renascent called Through Darkness. Pretty much melodic death/black metal. I am not highly familiar with the scene, but I think it could be compared to maybe Graveworm, and maybe many more (OMC, Borknagar, Dimmu???), but I can't say for sure.

But anyway, this CD is pretty amazing. I tend to shy away from melodic death, and from black metal with twinkle keys (this has a little of that) but the songwriting here is just awesome! They are also brutal enough to hold my attention.

I highly recommend this CD.

I don't mind unblack metal. One of the bands im getting into now are Antestor a Christian Black Metal band. I like 'em because they are good sounding band. I don't really give a shit what your beliefs are, if you sound good then that's what counts(for me anyways).

Yeah, Antestor are killer! I especially like their first two (Martyrium and The Return of the Black Death) as they are with the main members. There were a lot of member changes and then they put out an EP called Det Tapte Liv and then a full length called The Forsaken. I have yet to really familiarize myself with these last two releases, but I hear that they are great, despite not quite being the same band.
