Upcoming Sneap Projects

Why all the Nordstrom hate? I love "In Sorte Diaboli," and who can fault the immortal "Clayman?"

Same here. Aside from DT’s “Character” (that isn’t THAT bad) and IKTPQ’s “Music For The Recently Deceased” (that sounds kind of cheap), I think all his mixes are awesome. Dimmu Borgir’s latest effort sounds astonishing clear, considering the disaster it could be with that pretentious orchestra in the background.

That is a HORRIBLE idea. They should just re-release those records with some extra live tracks or old DVD footage or something. Johan's vocals were badass on those records. I don't personally think they should've replaced him. I like his vox WAY better than Angela's. He is a far more unique vocalist. Johan gave AE a sound that was all their own. They threw that out the window when they hired Angela. I always check out their albums when they come out, but I haven't found a reason to buy one since Burning Bridges.

Dude. Angela was the smartest thing they could have done. One word: TITS.

Nobody gave a rats ass about AE before her. Now they are big. And it's not that the music became soooo much better or anything ...

I like both periods of Arch Enemy, and I've been a fan since 1999, and I do think that some of their best songs were with Johan. Johan sounded like an angry muppet most of the time, although he was occasionally great. Angela is very consistent but not always very creative. I wouldn't mind hearing Angela redo those songs, especially if Andy Sneap was producing. I don't think Nordstrom is anywhere near the same league, even though he's mixed some of my favorite albums.

And yes, Angela has done a lot in terms of popularizing Arch Enemy. I don't think it's an easy thing to underestimate, even if I think it's largely for the wrong reasons. The fact that she is so solid as a vocalist and fairly humble about it makes it cool, though.

I thought 'Wages of Sin' was good, but my favourite Arch Enemy song released since then is "Turncoat" by Hearse. :goggly:

(runner up: "Crops of Waste", also by Hearse)

Man, I'm talking about musical integrity. Not selling records. And I think most of us, who have been in this business long enough, know that those 2 things are MANY MILES apart.

In that case, lets hope there will be a successful masteringjob. Rise of the thyrant mastering is absolutely horrible.

*shrugs*

I like AE waaaaaaaaaaay better with Angela than Johan. Regardless of her gender, her style and voice just fits so much better to me. To be honest, I was never a fan of the band in general, either incarnation, until my band played the Jager tour with them in '06...They were so solid and tight, by far the best sounding band I'd ever seen. And, she killed it live. From then on, they've become one of my favorite bands, and I love the music.

I'd love to hear the old songs with her voice on them.

I hope Andy does the mix. I can appreciate their desire to change it up with Nordstrom on ROTT, but man, it's so tough to listen to.

"the remixing and remastering of Anvil Bitch's "Rise to Offend." I can't back that up though."

What?

I'm calling Chuck tonight to ask about this. I mean, they JUST did their 1st Dominance reunion gig like last month or something ... unless somehow Lance has been in contact with Andy. Where did you hear this?

you personally know them!?!?!? fuckin' A. they made one of the best thrash albums ever. I made up the news cause no one ever talks about Anvil Bitch and it's funny just to drop their name at random. "Maggots maggots everywhere, ya ya ya, ya ya ya!" I had no idea they got back together...unless you're jerking MY chain now!

I'd like to hear the old AE albums with angela, but i still prefer Johan liiva. I just want them to start playing their old songs live, i just saw them a few weeks back and they didn't play a single song that was pre wages of sin.

I'm going to be a bit direct, and possibly contrary to my own opinions previously... I don't like either of them.

ANY! TIME! JOHAN! SAID! ANYTHING! IT! SOUNDED! LIKE! HE! WAS! JUST! YELLING! AND! THROWING! EXCLAMATION! MARKS! BETWEEN! E!VE!RY! SY!LLA!BLE! Okay, we get it, you're large and mean and extreme and you don't give a fuck so you accent every letter... right...

And Angela just sounds like generic-bordering-on-laryngitis to me on the newest one. I don't think anyone would be jumping all over those vocals if she were male... and on that note, she has to be one of the mousiest-looking women I've ever seen, and then she throws on enough eye shadow to absorb several stage lamps' worth of light... do not want.

Re-record the old stuff? If your name doesn't start with 'T', and end with 'estament', don't. You want to get the younger audiences? Tell them to buy them, rerelease them, whatever... this doesn't sound like trying to get scene kids into real metal, it sounds like grabbing money.

Jeff

They changed style after Burning Bridges, not just vocals.
IMHO, Johan suited the music better, he might not have been a good vocalist but it fit.

Angela is a bit too chavvy for me, not my taste...

What about all that Re-Release crap? I'm with Jeff here, this stinks money.

HAHahahaahhhahahahahahahhahahaha, so true - "FLY!! ON! SILVER! WINGS!"

And I totally agree on the lameness of re-recording old stuff, it's as blasphemous as the update of Star Wars; a big part of what constitutes art is the times it was made in, both in terms of the period and the artist's development of his/her/their craft at that particular point. Plus, on a more basic level, I think re-recording old stuff is such a horrendous cop-out (though yes, First Strike Still Deadly did fucking rule, holy god).

I think it'd be cool if a band re-record old stuff playing it live as a unit in the studio. If they incorporate any changes they make live and play it with that level of aggression and speed it'd be worth it having the extra version around.

I feel like Angela's improved the last couple of albums, and I agree that Johan's delivery was a bit ... off, to put it mildly. However, any time I listen to "Leader of the Rats", especially the vocal part in the intro, all I can think of is Gollum. Just imagine Angela saying "MY PRECIOUSSSSSSSSSS"... AMIRITE?

Hahaha, I have a similar negative association with a song on that album - whichever the song is with "I...I can feel nothing...nothing at all...except for the pain" as the chorus, the progression in that section is almost identical to "Lean on me," which is NOT something I want a metal song to remind me of.

Not jerkin your chain, how big do you think the Philly metal scene is? Yeah I know Chuck and Lance pretty good for a long time. Usually go partying with Chuck more often, Lance is kinda a, ummmmmm .... Chuck is a good dude ;)

They just played their 1st Dominance reunion gig, but they decided to change back to Anvil Bitch. We might actually be getting them to open for us for a gig we have next month but still need to hear back from one of them so yeah, AB is back dude and since Lance owns one of the bigger studios in Philly (Rhawn St Studios) there's a good chance you might be hearing some new AB stuff soon. They played Maggots at the gig but they also unloaded a couple of brand new tunes.

Cheers!:kickass:

that makes my day! I thought they all died or something....I read something awhile back that said New Renaissance couldn't even get ahold of them to give them earnings from the re-release of RtO. The label may not have tried too hard.
