Using triggers as Sidechain noisegate?

i want to try this, but i have never done it.

lets say i want to keep my original tom sound, but use the triggtracks as noisegate for the toms. how do i fix this? i would be happy if anyone could tell me

Simply route the trigger out to the side-chain input of your noise gate (via an auxiliary send perhaps), which is placed on the corresponding tom track. Set the gate to be triggered via the side-chain input, and set the threshold and various other settings accordingly.

This varies from plug to plug, and DAW to DAW, but the basic principle remains the same.

yeah just put a gate on the tom track, and set the key input on the gate to the trigger track - adjust the release to how you want it

Nudge the trigger tracks like 5ms earlier than the mic tracks. This will let your gate open just before so you get the full transient of the attack.

i do this on snare.
use my snare trigs sidechained to the s/c input on channelstrip. sooooooo handy

Hmm, most venues I worked in has had them. But it's always good to have a spare one in your rig. A 4-channel Behringer will work fine and will fit in with the rest of the gear at most venues as well, hehe...

(LIVE SOUND) So, lets say I have a DBX 166XL, which has sidechain on both channels. I run my signal, as normal, through for the drums...lets say kick/snare for this purpose. It has a sidechain TRS insert on it. Would I only need to worry about the input, unless I had a drum brain in the loop next?

I'd be interested in trying this out for live if benefits are to be had. I only ever heard of this being used for recording
