Usurper - Why don't you kids ever talk about them?

...because in my opinion, this is one band, that on paper at least, ought to be fairly well liked by pretty much everyone on here!

They do the black metally thing
They do the death metally thing
They do the thrashy thing
They even cover King Diamond / MF

Why the non-praise, metal chums?

Skeletal Season is a stone cold classic, and many of their other albums are superb too.

Can I get a "Heeeeeeeeeeeeeey? Urrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgh!" ?:kickass:

I saw them in FYE before (Skeletal Season actually!) and almost bought it; d/led it and liked it...still haven't bought it though. That's how I've heard of 'em.

But if anyone flames you for that, I'll just delete the posts anyway, for your information.

Usurper is great stuff :kickass:

I've never heard the old stuff, but their last album was ace besides that "Kill for Metal" song. Too repetitive for my tastes, that one.

I would have got to see them live at Day of the Equinox II but they pulled out and got replaced with Neuraxis (meh) and Misery Index (blah)

Yeah because they got rid of the singer/the singer quit/they mutually parted ways (one of them, forgot which).

You are right. Usurper is in the top three most underrated Metal bands. I never hear people talk about them in the Metal community and that's a damn shame.

I first came across them at a concert a couple of years ago. Diabolic was the main act, but they never showed. Cattle Decapitation played and they were meh. Next was a southern Metal/rockish band that was meh. Then, a rap/nu Metal band came on and they sucked wart covered genitals. At that point, all the supposed "metalheads" were going insane. I was front row and was the only one not moving with a disgusted expression on my face. I was about ready to go when Usurper came on stage. While most every one died down some notches, I exploded into some of the most violent head-banging I've ever done and thanked God I stayed and put up with all the bullshit bands. The guys didn't hang around after they finished, but since I was a foot away from the stage, the guitarist leaned over and shook my hand. He must have taken well to my excitement.

I wonder how fucking Usurper ended up on the bill with a bunch of bands like that!

It was probably mostly due to Diabolic and to a lesser extent, Cattle Decapitation, being extreme Metal. From what I hear, Amon Amarth had to tour with some poser Metal bands. Things like that happen all the time. It's a shame, but at least real Metal bands reach a broader audience.

Skeletal Season is good.

I talk to Rick, the guitarist, once in a while.

Solid band, but Scepter was better.

You really think so? Like, really really? Wow. Scepter are ok, but man , when Usurper slow down for one of those utter crushing "urrrrrrrrrrrgh" riff-a-thons, not many bands can touch them...

In any case, there's never been much about Usurper that's impressed me.
Indeed same here. I bought one album from them as a blind purchase and I regret it. The music overall just seemed lame, there's really no other way for me to say it. I'm not into the beer drinking metal or "brothers of metal unite!" kind of metal as this band came across as.

They also toured with Manowar, if that puts it in perspective.
.

It sure does. Manowar > Usurper > the other bands on that bill > pretty much everything else ever > you

Thanks for clearing that up :goggly:
