Yeah, Xeper totally rocks man. I think I gave that album a 9/10 when I reviewed, probably settled down to an 8/10 now. De Profundis always flirts with 10/10 though.

I dig Nile a lot, especially In Their Darkened Shrines, and Amongst the Catacombs of Nephren-Ka is fun for all out insanity. Black Seeds of Vengeance doesn't do much for me.

There's a little known Aussie death metal band called Portal who play an epileptic sort of antique-themed insane death metal. Worth a look.

The vocals from Demilich are rather unique. I'd heard about them in the past, but it still caught me off-guard. I like it.

I've gotten a lot of great info from this thread and aim to pick up a lot of what has been mentioned and already have purchased some of it, I'll keep everyone updated on what I decided to get. Also picked up a few things from the thrash thread.

so I was listening to Aeternus last night since I started going through my death metal collection. I got to Shadows of Old, and fuck me if it didn't kick some serious A-hole. It really is some quality death metal. Their atmosphere is still there, but it's much more subtle. And the closing bagpipe instrumental rules. Always loved the closing Aeternus instrumentals, especially the one on BtWM.

Anyway, I listen to the last three Aeternus albums tonight, then onto Akercocke.

BTW, the new Aeternus, Hexaeon, comes out early next year.

Yeah, but I'm going from genre to genre just kind of "trimming the fat" if you will. I have so many CDs that I probably haven't played for a few years, when I could sell 'em for cheap and put that money towards something I do want.
