Vile Death Metal

But I also don't understand death metal needing a twist to be enjoyed. Does this mean death metal bands need a gimmick to increase the enjoyment factor? don't get that. Does this also apply to black metal, doom, etc?

Not a gimmick, a novelty. And yes, it applies to everything, ESPECIALLY black metal, but then I suppose that defies the ideaology. Hence, 3000 Darkthrone clones.

Ive totally lost almost all interest in vile and technical Death metal as a genre. I'd much rather listen to Entombed or Vader, Behemoth, Obituary.

I have to. My interest just declined rapidly in regards to those ultra brutal, ultra fast, ultra lack of emotion death metal bands. I still love death metal, but like every other genre, I've grown extremely picky, which is the way it should be, I guess.

But damn if The Chasm, Asphyx, Soulburn, Bolt Thrower, old Edge of Sanity, Hypocrisy, Rudra, Nile, and Carcass (among others) don't get me giddy.

I dont even think of the Chasm as vile or technical--I guess I think like you J, I am more concerned with atmosphere and song structure than I am with how fast and brutal a band is. Frankly, bands like Today is the Day, Acid BAth, Khanate, Oceanic era Isis, even old Slayer, are far heavier and brutal than any of these death metal bands.

And none of them derivative. You forgot Aeternus and Melechesh. Perhaps first couple of Amon Amarth releases too.

I have to say, when it comes to death metal, I can pretty much leave it up to J to decide for me. This is one genre that I think he and I agree on completely.

I've yet to hear any Asphyx, but I'm going to listen to some Pestilence tonight.

Yeah, I was going to list them, but I thought it was agreed upon that those three bands rule. :)

Not to mention At the Gates, Amorphis, Pan Thy Monium, and Im even coming around on Mithras.

I still need to hear Pestilence. If only because Martin van Drunen did vocals for one of their albums. Asphyx is simply old school death, but slower than Dismember or Entombed.

this is my point exactly ... technical and "different" DM without any guts or souls ... is just that ... technical or "different"

this is why this new BRT is so great .... as they have some real chops and just balls out, heads down brutal. and it sounds like they are having damn fun.

never heard their previous releases but you guys should still check them out.

I don't give a shit about any of this fucking shit. All that matters is this (and I'll spell it out in big obnoxious letters because I'm druuuuuuuuunk as fuck tonight):

ANY OF YOU FAGZ THAT DON'T OWN THE FIRST THREE CARCASS ALBUMS DON'T KNOW A GOD DAMN MOTHER FUCKING SHIT FUCKING THING ABOUT GOD DAMN SHIT FUCKING VILE FUCKING GOD DAMN INTESTINE YAKKING ON YOUR MOTHER'S SHOE VILE FUCKING DEATH SHITFUCKING METAL..

Period.

Ree of Putrefaction, Symphonies of Sickness, and Necroticism? I've got 'em all, not to mention Heartwork, Tools of the Trade and Wake Up and Smell the Carcass.

You know I heard a SLipknot song on the radio, and the main riff was totally ripped off from Carcass. i guess it is easy to hide that if no one from the underground scene listens to SLipknot, and no one mainstream has any idea who Carcass is. The slipknot song wasnt very good, but it was at least aggressive, and it was the first time I have heard double bass drumming on the clear channel owned radio in a while.

I hate chumps that always spew that verbal diarhhea about "technical equals no feeling, blah, blah, blah...."

I fucking feel it, and that's all that matters. As far as BRT, I listened to the promo again yesterday and it just does nothing for me. And why is their vocalist's name Mr.Hustler??? :err:

And someone shoulda told these copycats that sounding like a second rate carbon copy all of the old school death metal bands was enough. They didn't have to go and copy Obituary's "Slowly We Rot" with their lineup photo as well.

You're so angry ... why you so angry? :loco:

There is another Obituary ripoff on the Arterial Lust track ... there is a strange left/right speaker pan as the track fades out for the last minute or so that I hear before. Maybe you can pinpoint it?
