Wedding Crashers

I've been watching a selection of 70s Hammer horror this week, and if you'll allow me to misquote the late and lamented Mr. Jay Sherman, they all stink!

Truly the only redeeming feature of any of these films was Peter Cushing's performance. Even the much vaunted Twins Of Evil let me down I'm afraid. When you make a movie starring not one but two Playboy centrefolds, wouldn't you expect *both* of them to get their kits off for longer than twenty seconds? ;)

At least Vampire Circus gave me another chance to bask in the graceful beauty that is Lalla Ward (AKA Romana Mark II), but otherwise it was incomprehensible gibberish. I can't believe I put off watching my new Angel Season 5 DVDs to sit through such utter tripe .

It doesn't look like I'll have the chance to see Sin City before it disappears from cinema screens, but in the meantime I've learned two things. Dr. Strangelove rules and Millennium Season 2 will be out on DVD within days :headbang:.

"Is that what MC Hammer did before wearing ridiculous trousers?"

(Better cut back on the ol' smileys there in case this turns into a Trent post)

Hammer, or "the studio that dripped blood" was an English production company that made its name in the 60s and 70s churning out horror flicks, making huge stars of people like Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee in the process. Obviously all the films I taped were released after the honeymoon was over. Sigh...

There are plenty of good Hammer films out there Winmar, like the Christopher Lee Dracula ones or the adaptations of Dennis Wheatley novels (eg The Devil Rides Out). I guess ABC's late night movie people took the cheap option and only bought rights for all the crap ones :).

Hang on, what were you doing with your life before you found out that Dr Strangelove ruled?

There was one Hammer horror film that scared the bejesus out of me, but I can't remember what it was called. It was a ghost story kind of thing, not a Dracula one. Some girl visits relatives and the house is haunted, or something. Oh, I don't know, I give up.

"Hang on, what were you doing with your life before you found out that Dr Strangelove ruled?"

Not an awful lot apparently . I was aware of its reputation but had never seen it until a friend gave me a copy a couple of weeks back. Said friend has also promised me Dead Man and Dark Star one of these days.

Both reviewers on The Movie Show said Weddings Crashers was pretty average, while it got better reviews on At The Movies, they reckoned the scenes dragged out way too much. I'll have to form my own opinion when I see it on dvd one day.
